Just a while I ago I received an email from Youtube saying that a video I uploaded was infringing on a copyright. I'm not sure if the complain came directly from JASRAC or not because the title says DMCA complaints.
It appears Youtube has taken the video down, but I don't think it's been completely deleted, because it still shows up under "My Videos".
Anyway, do you think I'll be facing legal action? Or is this notification just required form they send out when they take down videos?
You won't be facing legal action, it happened to me too when I uploaded a music vid. Rest easy.
They probably take down so many videos due to copyright infringement that bringing up legal action wouldn't even be realistic. I doubt Youtube wants you to get sued either. Unless they're closely-tied with the RIAA/MPAA(which i doubt) they probably don't want to get their userbase sent to jail.
I would severely doubt it as well. It's also likely that you had the right to use it; google Fair Use and find out. I think you can use any video material of a certain length legally without permission.
Don't worry, The notice is just part of the standard DMCA takedown process. IIRC it works kind of like this:
It happens all the time. I've never uploaded videos myself but I've noticed that some videos have disappeared from my favorites list...meaning that they've probably been deleted since they're nowhere to be found. :(

True, up until the last 2. The content creator doesn't have to sue for their content to stay taken down from a site. The DMCA notice is all a creator needs to have their work taken down. The content creator only sues if they feel like they've lost money for the said copyright infringement and if they really feel it would be worthwhile for them.

Ah? I may have misunderstood that then... But what if I as the person who put something up believe that it shouldn't have been taken down? What am I supposed to do in that case?
