The big corporations have gotten the power of entire nations now. Thanks to billions of people consuming contents on the big platforms they are now capable of influencing everyone using psychological techniques.
Stick with me till the end. Thanks to the information-only based world that is the internet we got all the mindless idiots consuming worthless information and not giving a fuck about what's happening around us and many follow everything/everyone that will give them the gratification they would get of having normal not-web-based interaction.
Now, this isn't a rant about all the crap present on the web.
Since the sharing of information has become so easy the big platforms(e.g. Facebook, Google, Reddit) based on sharing of content use alghoritms to close people in echo-chambers in order to get more money(stuck in echo-chamber -> consume more of that content -> base your personality aroud it -> become an idiot).This isn't a surprise since that's the only thing capitalistic business are interested in(money). But that gives them the power of deciding what people can think and base their opinions on. Which forces them(in order to not become hate-filled platforms)to set the rules themselves regarding what is posted and what not. Which lead us to them censoring content that they decide even if not hate-filled.
Governemts are only now beginning to catch-up with the fact that those big platforms have basically become little proto-nations and are trying to protect their power by acting accordingly.
What does that mean ?
Prepare to get the web regulated (maybe even the internet as a whole, though I can't see it happening without banning encryption) by laws. Maybe they will force us to use real IDs in order to register on websites or use the internet entirely(doubt it will happen in this century but who knows?).
Internet won't go away, which means we're going to get connected even more, even without wanting to, cause everyone will want a piece of that sweet information that everyone is willingly sharing around.
