I was just thinking about my weebness... if you're not from Japan and have no association with the country, can you remember a particular thing that drew you into Japanese culture? Or was it several things of a general Japaneseness seeping into your consciousness?
I think for me it was Vib-Ribbon and the way Vibri talked.
Junji Ito got me into manga in junior high, and since then my soul has been sold!

gamedev -> touhou (oh, a solo dev actually made something interesting, let's learn what's it's all about)
touhou -> japan (if it exists, there is a touhou parody of it, so it was a good introduction to japanese everything)
