i wanna know how to mathemathically calculate positions in animation!
two things to make : balance, weight/naturality
and it all falls down to a. position b. orientation

so i just simply need a way to calculate the exact values of these, somehow how do i do that?

>It's possible this was one reason that Google recently sold the robotics company "Boston Dynamics", which it had acquired only 2 or 3 years previously. This shows the potential of Google's "Deep Mind" AI algorithm. In just a few hours of simulation, Deep Mind was able to achieve (and perhaps surpass) the walking ability that took years of research and testing for Boston Dynamics to reach. If you simply plug Deep Mind into an actual robot with legs, it would no doubt be able to get the physical robot to walk just like the simulated person; the training process would take longer, of course.

>>3 yeah ive seen these, thanks.
arent they abit of overkill?
i imagined there was some sort of simple animation logic model used to fix and asure quality in maybe sprites/game animation, any acting or action like maybe in a walk how left leg will be forward with right leg and the pelvis wll orient towards it so on so forth m so it is about finding those micro values in exact, so to make a correct, balance looking, weighted movement?

not like having an AI do everything....

You can also:
1) Do motion capture
2) Film a video and trace it
3) Hand animate everything, and just fix everything that doesn't look natural until it does.

Are you interested in 2d or 3d animation?

>>5 2d or 3d seems to follow the same set of realism...

Sorry, what I meant, are you interested in pen and pencil animation or 3D CGI animation? First kind is probably dead by this point, jews often jew out of that in favor of cheaper 3d one. Japs still do something akin to traditional animation, but it slowly and steadily goes to shit even there.

>>7 as i said, i am not biased. 2d is more convenient for learning now and i practically memorized everything about rigging and animation shortcuts, so other than MEL, i have no issue either.

the topic in question is more about the physics and the exact specific values needed to place the limbs so things look "natural" enough, but i cant seem to think of anything but simple angular mathemathics...

What's MEL?

>>9 the programming stuff in maya. it's python like but i guess it is useless if you dont know how or what math for it to run... which is the reason why i am here now. doing basics.

I see. I'm more of a blender3d guy, I know nothing about Maya.

Are you making a videogame or a video? Or maybe just a gif? Do you want to make animation your career, or are you just wasting yours and everyone's time?

https://www.gamedesigning.org/animation/books/

I've read only "The Animators Survival Kit" out of those. It felt a bit wasteful, lots of barely useful talk and just a few actually useful advices, like "make mass constant between frames". Also it is too old fashioned, it talks about like 1960's western animation. You need to make a video about animation, not a book.

Interesting thing I learned from watching "Puss in boots" by toei animation ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wonderful_World_of_Puss_'n_Boots , I'm not sure why english title is so retarded, japanese title is just "Nagagutsu wo haitta neko", literally "Puss in boots"), is that picking a good character design is very important for making animators' lives less painful. Literally everyone's head there is a circle, they are mostly made of ovals, yet it doesn't jump into your eyes that much. Western cartoons also have simplified character designs, but those are just abhorrent monstrosities most of the time, going full jew to save money. The x-men cartoon is good, everyone looks human, cartoons with talking animals are eh, can't stomach those anymore, but some go below that.

Many studios outsource animation to chinese or some other asians. Basically to whoever works for cheapest. So, if you don't live in some shithole with very low income in general population, becoming an animator is probably out of your reach.

>>11 Whatever i wanna fucking do is up to me and not yours. i suggest you to not waste my time too with your sly commentary.

I also dont care about animation job, i do this for fun but fun itself needs some sort of general standard, and for that i'd suggest anybody to take this matter as seriously if not technical and calculated approach.

>character design

i have that taken care of, and being a hobby i have no production demands on me so we dont need to expand on that, but however animation and physicality seems to rely on some sort of realism a mere reference video does not always provide if not followed by a detailed study and guide; only an experienced hand can make use of raw references or maybe create new, reliable content purely from imagination.

I wouldnt call myself a professional, but i know enough when a material is not feasible, and we can always compare results, your results, and call it a day. So please, make this discussion profound and short, by any means, if you have no time but yours to waste.

Allright. I thought a little warning before you go and waste a few years of your life is necessary.

Care to post a few of your works? I'm curious about your powerlevel right now.

>>13 Maybe. What are you looking for? I can post you some new stuff right away in some anonymous file storage. Nothing animated, until you can set up the important details so we can have a sound discussion and then better content.
