If it's a publicly available website that doesn't suck, people (idiots, women, narutards, etc) are going to find it and proceed to shit and/or menstruate all over it until it drowns in a sea of bloody diarrhea. At this point everybody else shows up and continuously gangbangs the shit covered corpse for as long as it stays online. I'm pretty sure this is a law of internet sociology or something.
Moderation can mitigate/prolong this process to some extent, but it's inevitable. There are other more radical approaches to the problem, such as private websites set up by cabals that don't exist or paying D A D D Y C O O L enough to get access to his secret area of VIP Quality (it's a huge ripoff; F---- would not payhim again).

Im sorry guys, but i really dont think that an overabundance of users is a problem we have here at 4ch.
Think about it,I'm not being too selective,its just that this used to be a hangout place for people who shared the same interests.Variety is nessesery,of course,but we are loosin that "essence".There was a bunch of japanese 2channel user who use to come here all the time,but every day there are fewer and fewer.What I mean is that we should be more like 2channel.

I'm in agreement. If the site is ever active enough that a fraction of retard users makes any noticeable impact, then you might have something to complain about. In times of influx access to websites should be physically restricted to already present members. this should prevail for a while until new users have been adequately indoctrinated or have left. Then open up the site again. its the perfect system: it protects its own existence, it grows in size and strength, it specializes, it prepares for disorder and instability while keeping chaos to a minimum. in the larger context, a shitty culture may not die, but certainly will not grow as new users scope out a comprehensible place. 4chan /b/ is incomprehensible and thus people revert to their basic animalistic dumb stuff.
i'll be passing this site out to more digital denizens and posting more myself. its strong enough to protect itself from the few users who could be attracted here in the first place.

I created my own bbs and didn't tell anyone about it. After about six months i deleted it, with a grand total of five posts; three of which were pictures of bulbasaur from google images, one which was a first post post, and one eerie deleted post to give the board some mystery.

I'm not entirely sure what he means by that, but building off what I can discern from that idea, I think it would be a better idea to make new users quickly knowledgeable about how to behave on this site, as that would be easier to enforce than controlling who visits this site at all.
I think a good deterrent for people that would be more suited for imageboards and phpBBs is all ready present on the site in its being a textboard. Also the very minimalist page greeting new users that reads in very small text, ''this is a site for anonymous discussion"drives away less scrupulous people.
In terms of popularity, 4-ch is way past its apex, so I don't think there should be any concern. Seeing as the prior posts are from 2008, I'm sure it was very warranted to become concerned about a luxury such as the type of users a site gets, though.

I've had this issue with another website before.
There will only be more idiots over time.
One of the causes is that people spread this board on 4chan on /qa/ after it's take over.
I've come trough 4chan to this website and I don't want it to be filled with shitposting morons.
That aside, if you want to keep something secret, keep it secret.
And If it's not secret any more, move it where it's less likely to be found.
If the community deviates too much, it's the task of the admin to fix the problem.
