I've recently learned about Doujinshi (self-published manga), and I would be interested in reading some of them, but can't read japanese,...
So I would like to know where can I find doujinshi online, translated/written in a western language (english of course, but other european languages are fine too)? Also, I don't care if the doujinshi was made in japan or somewhere else.
Finally, legal download sources would be a plus, since I don't want to cope with piracy issues.
One more thing, I'm not really interested in hentai stuff.
I mean, you can list it, if you want, but I would prefer stuff with an interesting story, not just sex fantasy.
Thanks for the link, it's a good start,... But there seems to be only hentai stuff. Are there productions with some story development?
Cool,... That's a great site, thanks!
neeeh... rapidsearch died.
Any other suggestions on where to start if one wanted to get more into doujinshi?

That depends on how specific you are in what you want to read. Parodies of a certain anime/manga? Original stories?
Some niche fandoms like Tohou have translated huge masses of dojinshi, but naturally it's all Tohou related.

For more general knowledge, there's the Doujinshi DB.

Doujin artists regularly breach copyright laws in the first place. Which is why you'll have to deal with "piracy issues" as western publishers simply will not license doujins.
Well,... I'm more interested in original work anyway, so that would not be an issue for me. Is it that rare to find original work in Doujin?
learn moonspeak
>learn moonspeak
Alternately, write your own doujinshi
Indeed. It doesn't even have to be a manga. As long as you publish it yourself, it's a doujinshi.
What's moonspeak? Slang for japanese?
Anyway, I do intend to produce my own stuff, but that doesn't prevent me from being interested in what others are doing,...
>What's moonspeak? Slang for japanese?
Precisely. And "moonrunes" is kanji.
At anime boston 08 in two years, a girl is writing her own non-ero Haruhi doujinshi. I don't even like Haruhi that much, but I'll buy a copy just to check it out and support the whole english doujinshi phenomena.
Also OP, like 90% of doujinshi is based on existing works (fanfiction wwww) and like 50% of it is porn.
>90% of doujinshi is based on existing works (fanfiction wwww) and like 50% of it is porn.
I'm interested in the 10% that is original content (non fanfiction), preferably the 5% which are not porn. When I wrote the original post I was not aware that most of doujinshi was fanfiction and porn, so I didn't mention it.
I was told that the Haibane Renmei script started as a doujinshi, so original content must exist,... It would be nice to have more web references.

aBE wrote about two short chapters of Haibane Renmei as doujinshi (and a side humor story), then got the anime version financed. So it's no that the entire series is in doujinshi form...you can find the originals online if you want, probably on rapidshare.
If you want original stories and nonporn, you might want to look into indie US and UK comics. To be honest, stuff like that is a lot more "product" than the Japanse doujinshi, more art and less fanboy wank material. Plus it's in English and doesn't have to be imported.

Ok, I'll try to find that,... Although maybe it was never translated, which would be a problem.

If you have nice references, that would be appreciated!

they were translated, not sure if this the translated versions, but still

Do you have a local comic store? the best place to go to is a cool semi-undergroundish comic store like Million Year Picnic in Boston or Modern Myth's in Amherst and just check out the shit in their "local" or "smallpress" sections.

Thanks for the link, I'll try to download it.
>Do you have a local comic store?
I'm in Munich, Germany, and there are actually a few comics shops. I'll pay them a visit, to check what do they have, in terms of local production.
Nevertheless I was interested in web resources, because I'd like to know the independent production of far away countries, such as Japan and the US. At the moment I've mostly followed the french-speaking community (be it Canadian or European). One of my favorite productions was a guy writing about his divorce. It was hilarious and sad, highly recommended (but out of reach, if you can't read french): http://www.appartelier.com/blog/
I downloaded the link, and it's most excellent. Would gladly like to see more of that stuff,...
I found an English-language original Haruhi doujinshi at the Dealer's Room in Anime Boston last weekend. It wasn't too bad.
Why?
Is anyone else reading Double K? It's an loloel doujinshi being posted online, with the characters of Gurren Lagann set as Miami Vice-style hard beat detectives.
HAHA! In england, there's only one place i can find traditional english Dojinshi, and that's at the Convention held twice a year. If anyone can tell me of anywhere else that sells Dojinshi stuff in england, please tell me!
I have had a look on the internet for Translated Dojinshi's, there's quite a few good ones, if you look in the right places, you can get loads :D

more like 80-90% of it.

Is it the anime expo they sell dojinshi at?
I've never been, though I've always wanted to go.
I found a few groups at Anime North selling original english doujinshi this year. They were all BL/yaoi though. orz.
http://www.doujinalert.com/GT/GTmembers/Doujinshi.html
this is one but I am not sure if all of this is hentai or if some is regular doujin but it has a large list of doujins alphabetically listed
worth going to I think....haven'wt went to it in so long not sure
I'm surprised that nobody has listed http://g.e-hentai.org/ yet. It contains mostly of /h/ dojins but has several non-/h/ as well.

Only 30% of doujinshi sold at Comiket are porn. At Comitia it is only 10%.
You have never been to Japan. Consider for yourself why you only ever see porn doujinshi.
Because it's the only type of doujinshi which makes an impact.
to lots of porn, but i never seen yaoi not even 1.
www.smackjeeves.com has a lot of decent doujinshi. If you have homophobia, you'll have to dig through all the BL/GL to find a good normal manga =_=

I presume people don't like the site format, even if it's one of the oldest and largest manga/doujin archive.
On a related note, if you hate EH (or can't into panda), in addition to >>41 , the following are generally good substitutes as they scrape EH periodically:
thedoujin.com
pururin.com
nhentai.net
If you're looking for specific stuff and correct tags, it's still better to use EH.
You can read lots of english doujin/manga here https://doujinshi.online/language/english/
