Hi there!
Is Avatar an Anime or not and do you like it either way?
Wow, nobody has yet expressed this opinion in this thread! We all thank you for your razor-sharp insight!
Airbender = Lame Bitchfucked 'Art' demoralized, deficated wanabe anime.
Airbender Sux Ass!
>>102
Do what it says on your username you idiot.
Can people please stop writing in this thread now?
It ends here and now. No more.
Thanks!
ur doing it wrong
No, I would never consider it even close to anime.
My step-bro calls it Chiname. LMAO!! lol CHINA-ME lol.
>>106 LMAO
It is better then most anime though, hell i like it more then naruto, at least avatar uses motion capture aaaaall the time and naruto is just crappy anime&quality
anime is a shortened word for the american word animation. therefor, all animation is anime. now, is it japanese anime? nope. is it anime? yes. all animation = anime. not all anime = japanese anime.
Did you bother readint the thread at all before replying?
PERMASAGE PLZ
>>109 Whether they did or not, I completely agree with them and am glad to see the number of votes increase.
fuck no i didnt bother to read the whole thread! i saw what post 1 said. I gave my answer. All animation is anime. Little Mermaid = anime. Mickey Mouse = anime. All animation is anime.
>>112
Then SHUT THE FUCK UP. Your unoriginal opinion has been expressed 50 times at least and we are sick of this thread.
This was not a nice way of ending this thread so here is a better one:
Thank you all for reading this and trying to answer a (as it seems) pretty hard question (since times are changing).
But now this thread has come to an end since the only things that are said are repeating what has already been written. So please stop postinh here.
Consider this thread closed.
Thank you very much and have a nice day!
Use sage dammit.
this thread has nice pants
>>114
that was not a better thread ending.
It's an easy question to answer: no. it is not. not all animation is anime. only animation from japan is anime. avatar is a crappy little cartoon, and nobody likes it.
>>117 I said it is hard because everyone has their own opinion and can keep it since all kinds of opinions have been said.
The thread end here and now.
it ends when i say it ends, biyatch!
It ended months ago you dumbshit
it continues!!!!!!! waah wahh wah
It was pintless to begin with, and it's even more pointless now.
And more pintless too!
NEED A COUPLE MORE PINTS FOR GAMGEE AND THE BOYS... WHAT'S THAT, BAGGINS? YOU COULDN'T POSSIBLY DRINK ANYMORE?! NONSENSE!
This thread is now a continuation of http://4-ch.net/anime/kareha.pl/1200279461/ and is only to be used to discuss our love for Feito-chan. Please do not get off-topic.
So anyway, I love Feito-chan.
do not want avatar.
kthkzbai
>>125
Please do not get off-topic. This thread is about Feito-chan. You may also mention Nanoha or Arisa, but only if it is relevant to the discussion.
Anything else is threadjacking.
would we consider hentai anime then
would I consider you fat
yes
fatter than fat could ever be
This thread is not about fatness, please, it is about Feito-chan, which for the record isn't.
It's an animation made in America. Cartoon.
Thank you for this totally original point of view which certainly hasn't been expressed already in this thread. A hundred times.
Avitar the last Air bender is not an anime. It has the reminence of a cartoon, and so far as I know is not played in japan and never was/will be.
We are >>133's courtiers.
We are sorry that our lord has created such a stupid post.
After the last war we had completely lost, our lord got mental illness.
Everyday, he kidnaps girls from the village.
Every night he gets drunk and tries to chop courtiers with his katana.
Now the lady of the house is ill in bed.
The people in our country are suffering badly from famine.
The neighboring Daimyos is taking advantage of this situation,
they try to pass across the border and take over our land.
Quite a few of our fellow courtiers have intention to rise in rebellion.
We are now in dire straits. Our clan would be destroyed.
But, don't worry. We arranged that our Lord become a Buddhist priest.
On his way to the temple, our skilled assassin will take his life.
That is arranged perfectly. After that we will hail Master Monaminokami,
the nephew of our lord, as our new lord.
We, all courtiers, would do our best to serve this new lord with faith.
We apologize for any inconvenience our lord may have caused you.
Please wait for a while. Please forgive the evil deeds done by our lord.
in terms of what Anime means then Avatar is Anime along with Looney Toons and Futurama.
in terms of if its Japanese Animation then its not, Avatar was animated in Korea and Produced and written and such in America.
This thread is about Feito-chan. Future attempts at getting off-topic will not be allowed.
anime much?
TOUHOU HIJACK
Anything without their ANN link let alone Ani.db will never be one
>>133
Avatar is airing in Japan. It even has a Japanese dub.
>>141
Well, I've heard the dub, and as a fan of the English original, I think it's really...meh. Azula's Japanese VA makes me facepalm.
There's lots of Japanese fanart already, though. Right now the second season is airing, which is when the show really gets best imho.
More people should watch this over being worried about being anime

Avatar would not be popular without people that insist being anime
How is that crap even considered anime?
That's like saying "Jackie Chan Adventures" is anime...
Just because it's draw in a similar anime-wannabe style dot NOT mean it is anime.
Then again most weeaboos don't even know the the difference.
Weeaboos are the least people to consider anything like this anime
Avatar is annoying and is in no way anime. It doesn't qualify at all.
>>148 agreed
Funny though, I have friends who call it "Chiname". lol.
They would like something more nihon authentic not cheap imitation
NO
/THREAD
why not? just because of where it is made?
Anime is never an art style but any nihon made animated production
>Just because it's draw in a similar anime-wannabe style dot NOT mean it is anime.
>Then again most weeaboos don't even know the the difference.
most weaboos don't even know that 'anime' is japanese word for all cartoons independently of country or style
So if any Japanese person draws an animation it is anime, even if it isn't in anime style?
Anime style makes a loose term when some anime looks western drawn
Avatar is retarded, regardless of whether it is anime or not.
oh wow this shitty thread is still alive
>most weaboos don't even know that 'anime' is japanese word for all cartoons independently of country or style
how true. I hate to admit it myself, but godforsaken fucking shit like Spongebob Squarepants would be considered anime to them.........
The debate we are having now is like the debate over the definition of "otaku" it depends on if you are using the Japanese or English version.
I know ill get some hater after what I just said at some point.
It's anime. Just not Japanese anime.
That's just like saying that The Boondocks is an anime.
It drawn in an anime style, but I wouldn't consider it a true anime. As Mr >>163 kinda related to, its drawn in that kind of anime way, but its not an anime.
lol internet
2 years have passed, and this thread has beeen bumped a plethora of times :]
But, i dont know. I never liked Avatar.
It's funny to see the Otaku mentality this way. "Don't let anyone taint our Otaku vocabulary."
Is this the reason why you use "hentai" to refer to only Japanese porn animation?
I'm sorry, but "anime" is just a shortened form of "animation" in general and "hentai" means
"perverts" in general in the Japanese language.
If you mock Japanese people trying to speak English as "Engrish", what should this Otaku vocabulary
called?
>>167
The word Anime was Americanized to refer to Japanese Animation and has been used in pretty much every other country outside of Japan to refer to Japanese Animation.
Hentai can mean pervert (most commonly used is Ecchi) but it does actually mean porn, too.
Avatar is an American animation. There's no other word for that other than Cartoon. Unless you're Japanese and can't speak a lick of English, you can't call it Anime.
It's not drawn in an Anime style. It's a mock-up. Same shit as Teen Titans. American Animators suddenly think "hey, Anime is cool and all the hip and trendy kids dig it. Let's attempt to replicate it in any way we can for higher ratings!"
Of course, I haven't seen an American animation company replicate the actual -animation- side of things with the crap they produce, the only thing they're good at is reading "How To Draw Manga" books and implementing it into their shitty kids cartoons.
you took the words right out of my mouth. i have to agree with what you have said.
i have nothing against american companies who make cartoons based on whatever they think up. but i hate those who even try to mimic the styles from anime itself. they are nowhere near the perfection anime can produce. they should give it up and try to find their own unique style and stop imitating other culture's success in animation.
>>169
I didn't expect to hear a reply that is repeated ad nauseam at this point. Well, what can I expect
from a person for whom the Engrish satire bit was easily lost. Your reply, along with many other
brainless replies, boils down to the country of origin and some obscure "Anime style" or
"actual -animation- side of things" as if there were such a monolithic, monadic entity exists in
the Japanese animation industry. I'm sorry, there isn't. It's some concept that is coined for your
convenience. It doesn't hold any significance as far as the the efficacy of your argument goes.
So, again, your reply just repeated this "country of origin" argument. Just give me examples of
words used in the English speaking world that have the "country of origin" bit built into their
definition, just like you say the word Anime does. Like >>35 said, it's a medium. A movie made in
wherever is still called a movie in English. Yes, an American cook can make a dish that can be
legitimately called a Japanese dish. What is wrong with you?
If satire is lost, let me ask directly. Why do you have to act in such a way so that even the language
you use has to have some exclusive elite status? I can do without the "How To Draw Manga"
book, ok? Funny that >>170 has to start with "i have nothing against american companies", isn't it?
How many times have you heard the phrase "I don't mean to offend you, but..."? Does that mean
anything? What is wrong with you?
>but it does actually mean porn, too.
In Japanese? No, it's too generic to be used to refer to only porn. It's used porn titles a lot because
it's such a convenient word.
A interesting thing about Avatar is that the animators where required by the director to buy and watch all of FLCL before working on the project. If you watch Avatar you will notice tons of moments that are very reminiscent with FLCL.
Other Japanglish words that bother me in recent years are exemplified here.
http://www.animenation.net/blog/2009/12/28/ask-john-are-there-any-shounen-anime-starring-girls/
Shounen, Shoujo, and Seinen.
They are the words used by magazine editors to target thier products to specific readers as in Shounen Jump. Japanese animation is never classified this way. Weekly magazines and animation shows are rightfully understood as different products in Japan. It's OK if you want to classify them differently outside of Japan, but why do you have to employ Japanese words to do so (if classifying differently is really what you want to do)? The Japanese audience would laugh at the extreme measure taken to alphabetize Japanese words only to be used in a different manner.
Think of this way. Those who want to protect the sacrosanctity of the word "anime" are the very people who taint Japanese words. Ignorance is clearly not bliss.
anime = animated
It's considered an anime in Japan, but not in America, since the Japanese word アニメ is not limited to Japanese animation.
>>173
Actually Japanese animation is in fact classified (by the viewers and reviewers if not the producers and TV stations) as shounen, shoujo etc, though there are obviously a large number of shows that defy this classification system. Are you going to argue that anime is never targeted to a specific audience? If so, I will have to laugh in your face.
KORRA is hot; fire-bend!
ATLA is too good to be anime
If we're going by actual definition, every animated show counts as anime, since anime tends to refer to animation in general. But in this context, I wouldn't say AtlA is anime, at least not Japanese anime.
Is this anime?
