Inspired by the "What anime really surprised you and why?" thread, I think it's time we fess up and say that that one series we always insult, belittle, or just ignore is actually the one that touched us deep in our heart.
For me the main one that pops into mind is Gravitation. It and couple episodes of Loveless are the only two shōnen-ai animes I've ever seen, but I ended up really liking this to the point that I even read the manga too. I don't even remember why I started watching it, but the drama and dynamics between Shuichi and Eiri kept me hooked. Of course I'll never admit this and have on more than one occasion made fun of Gravitation with my friends, but somewhere deep in my closest is a box with all 12 manga volumes and the anime boxset lovingly packed away.
Hetalia is the other one that I've recently become pretty obsessed with but hide from others. Enough of my friends have seen the anime that I feel comfortable admitting that I like to watch it, but if anyone asks if I've read the web comic I pretend like I don't even know there is a web comic.
So yeah, please share your secret anime loves or better yet, any stories you may have about being caught or something. It'll be cool to read and who knows, you it may even inspire us to watch something we normally would not.
Kanamemo. Everyone keeps bashing that show so I can't bring myself to openly admit that I like it.

I thought Kanamemo would be this for me, but after a couple of episodes I simply forgot to keep downloading it.
I have explained in detail to several people why Strawberry Panic sucks, but I secretly love it for most of the same reasons I would use to explain why it's a bad show. In fact the franchise overall is one of my favourite, but there's only one person (people on Anonymous message boards aside) I'll ever admit this to.
In general despite bashing them I tend to like shows which are really melodramatic and over the top, but I would probably admit to most others.
Anything by Key, really. I don't know why but for some reason their stories click with me. I must have watched Air seven times in the last three years, which really is quite sad. I've also read Planetarian and have been patiently waiting for the other VNs to be translated.
And yes, Strawberry Panic was a terrible and ridiculous show but I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Evangelion thanks to the viewers who read too much into a cash cow
ah glad to be an bit of inspiration OP! I'll contribute:
Honey & Clover.
Obviously, this anime/manga is geared toward older teen girls since the plot fully revolves so much around unrequited love. An anime for chicks man. But after the first 10 minutes i was hooked!! the characters are so well developed, and so human that you cant help but feel for them, if not relate to them. they deal with all the stresses that i go through now: worrying bout my career, juggling work, social, love and school life.
damn psp. i hate writing on these things! anyway go check honey & clover. its great, and im ashamed to admit it to my berserk/detroit metal city lovin friends! haha
Woo! Honey and clover is definitely an awesome anime. Man, I didn't think it was all that much of a chick-anime; but it was realistic, and it was good. Although I can't say I digged the main chick's character design, it stopped bothering me after the second episode because the anime and its story was just too good. I liked every single characer; that's a first for me.
By the way, I'm Id:Wa4vb5eG from your previous topic, and the guy from that most sad moment topic; the one where I recommended Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. I'm surprised to see how alike we are in our taste of anime! I'm gonna set me a name instead of anon, now.
Nanatsuiro drops. It lets you turn off your mind and take a shower of cuteness and moe.
Ouran Highschool Host Club. It's your typical shōjo show. I'd usually not watch something like that. I just stumbeled upon the OP on YouTube and kind of liked it. Then I decided to check out the first episode. The last episode was very beautiful and I almost cried.
Every anime i've ever watched, pretty much. K-On!, Toradora, Rec, Azumanga Daioh, Clannad & Clannad AS, etc etc. I'm really geared towards girly, love-dovey, sappy anime shows, and it's rather embarassing. Hell I've got Air and Honey & Clover on my HDD now, going to dig into those as soon as I'm done with higurashi.
any yuri anime or anything "taboo". All because of the sex I'm born with, liking yuri or watching things of taboo nature [though not condoning it] is something I have to keep on the DL.
Angel Sanctuary will make you happy with all the blasphemy you see

Ouran was meh for me. It seemed like it couldn't quite decide on whether it wanted to be dramatic or comedic. Every spare moment they threw in of drama I got excited but then there was no followup.

Aw man, I bet I found another person who loves Koi Kaze. KK is awesome, but not because it's incest or anything. It's because the relationship builds so slowly and solidly and believably despite their best efforts. Since it's about a brother and sister diddling, though, I have to keep quiet about it.
And I guess you would prefer angsty yuri? Or do you like yuri in general? Because Aoi Hana is pretty damn good but the lesbianism is not portrayed as a big tragic deal.
Boku no Pico
There's a lot! Is it wrong for a guy to enjoy romance-comedy anime more than other genres of anime?
It is only wrong if you let yourself think you are not supposed to
Clannad [seconded]
none,if you are ashamed you don't love it.
Kara no Kyoukai
Code Geass
>>20
Don't be ashamed at all.
Personally: Kashimashi or Ouran High School Host Club... =/
>>16
No it is not wrong! I have a friend who openly says he watches those genres with pride. (he only watches that genre)
Aria the Animation
I will watch just about any genre of anime. If you are watching it for the story, you will find yourself often enjoying it more than if you just look for combat/cuteness/etc/
Monster

WHAT
Natsume Yuujinchou
Jewel Pet, it's basically a show to sell crap to little girls, but it's funny and has Kamai Eri and Hirano Aya.
Tsubasa Chronicle
Yu-Gi-Oh. It's self-explanatory.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Strike Witches - Fanservice, no pants, etc. Great combat scenes and comedy though.
Kanamemo, Hidamari Sketch, Strawberry Marshmallow, Bottle Fairy, and other moe-nothing-happens shows. I can't resist the adorable characters
Ouran Host Club - girly shoujo anime but I was addicted throughout its run
Mononoke
I'm totally ashamed that every once in a while i try to catch up on naruto. I really hate the main characters (cough*naruto, sakura, sasuke, kakashi*cough) but i want to know what happens to Rock Lee, Hinata, Shino and Chouji.
Honey and Clover [Fourthed]

Must agree with Ouran Host Club, it was very addicting.
This new season has given me too much anime to be ashamed about: Kampfer, Kobato, and Nyan Koi being the 3 worst that I will watch to the end... maybe.
Fullmetal Alchemist
Clannad.....err Kanon...Key stuff...Heck I even liked Tomoyo and Kyou chapters...xD
Kara no Kyoukai [seconded]
Hahaha, well I see a lot of the replies here are to do with minor ecchi/romance animes which are pretty normal.
I don't know maybe Kodomo no Jikan some extremely loli-fueled anime. Then again. Lolicons are quite common. :P
Nodame Cantabile
Kiss x Sis
Summer Wars
Kimi ni Todoke
Kannagi
