It's been a problem since forever, but it's even worse now because the the style chosen to be the Universal Default is that very cheap-looking and oversaturated barf that disposable isekai and other generic seasonals have relied on since 2014.

You see it most clearly in old franchises that got unwarranted sequels like Cardcaptor Sakura and Higurashi. Comparing the old stuff to the newest cashgrab is soulcrushing. It always looks like a parody of the old anime, like they took key character features and redrawn them on a generic Anime Girl from 2020. In effect the characters have all been pushed through a very cheap art shredder.
