I have been learning for 3 months now. I have gotten down all the hiragana/katakana so what should I do next? Any good sites for learning kanji??? Also any videos that are good to watch...AND has anyone else tried to teach themselves???I just do it because my school has no japanese language courses. Any help will be appreciated. =D

mmhmm...um...okay...no.

I taught myself and I'm doing fine. I plan on taking classes in college though. Just learn as much as possible so when you do take a class you are ahead of the game!

a language is a means of communication. if you are not communicating you are not learning a language. if you're unlucky you're learning nothing, if you're lucky you're learning some bizarre process of encoding/decoding.

Well, all though >>1-5 fails for sock puppetry, I would say that teaching yourself any language is often a bad idea. I would say you should always get help from many other people, even if you aren't paying. Find natives, find teachers, just don't go into it alone. Any language really.

This is what the ENTIRE of quizlet.com is like. I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually just the same 12 year olds who found 4-ch somehow.

Go away Mr Dumb Fuck. Being an anime otaku doesn't mean you have to type like an idiot.

If you can't learn by yourself or in a class try finding a pen pal/e-pal who can speak to you in Japanese or any other language you want to learn.

I learned English completely on my own and only actually started using it to communicate with other people when I was more or less fluent in it.

Use your internet to your advantage. :3
There are thousands of sites where you can communicate with Japanese-speaking people. Find one and build a freindship between them, maybe latter you can write them letters and leave them voice e-mails. It helps to talk to an actual fluent speaking Japanese person, compared to another person learing. You can learn not only the language but also the culture that goes hand-in-hand with learing a language.

It is affective and most people want to help you

If there really is such a dialect as "real" Japanese, what's so bad about learning "fake" Japanese? The limit of scope in which you can communicate while still retaining some speck of dignity? Hah! Dignity!

I'm assuming what >>24 means by "real japanese" is dialect and accent. In that case, I have to agree, that unless you actually immersed yourself in the language around jr.high age and had active interaction with that language, your accent and dialect will basically sound like a foreigner and not natural at all. Or at least, that's what my linguistic text book tells me.

I'm one of those weaboofags who tried (as much as I felt I could) to learn stuff from anime/internet. So far I've learned just about nothing much. Yeah, I know hiragana and katakana a few kanji here or there, and a small handful of phrases, but that's really it. The most it could do in real life is impress some family or friends. The most practical thing I can think to do with it is use it to find some videos online or some doujinshi from a Japanese website. This doesn't bother me though, because that's all I really need. If you want to learn a language just take it at the community college.

Define 'real Japanese'. I wasn't aware that there was a 'fake Japanese' in the first place.

Weaboo fags can learn Japanese if they stopped stooping in front of the computer learning random tidbits off anime.
Get a freaking class... honestly, there's so many places which teach Japanese, it can't be that hard to just find one.

i think you would better learn the language if you are forced to use it somehow. like you have to read japanese documents or something. even if you spend time learning if you don't see a need for using it you'll soon forget it. happens to me all the time.

OP, I really suggest you take a class. But since you actually took the time to learn kana, then... well, I reccommend www.jisho.org, that's a really nice online dictionary.
