Tegami Bachi - Letter Bee! (7)

1 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2012-04-01 17:13 ID:85jhMvh3

Have you read it? I've got the first three volumes and they are pretty great! The art is very pretty and the atmosphere and depth the Amberground world has is great.

2 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2012-04-02 19:18 ID:Heaven

I'd also like to say that I feel like the author truly puts more work into Tegami Bachi than is the norm. I mean just look at this cover art. -
Most of the time cover art is simply a profile of one of the characters and then some gradient or pattern made with an automated photoshop tool for the background. But Asada makes whole friggin paintings for this cover art.

Poor lad. I mean Lag. I wonder why all English or European names were chosen. I mean, it's not like any of it's Japanese readers will ever be able to pronounce them correctly.
I imagine fans fighting over how to pronounce it right on 2ch.

7 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2020-10-22 11:50 ID:gIqZ0BUA

I watched the anime then read the manga. In retrospect it would have been better if I had just read the manga, because it was one of those occasions where the anime gets ahead of the manga and makes up its own incomplete storyline.
20 volumes is a good amount of story to chew through and I don't remember everything from it, but a lot of cool things happened.

Densha Otoko Manga (84)

1 Name: Random Manga Otaku 2005-09-02 17:39 ID:415WhODe

Oh yes, another Densha Otoko thread!

I heard there were several manga adaptions out there, but I only know of this one (which ran in Young Sunday Comics) which got the first few chapters translated:

Post more info stuff about other manga adaptions if you can!

And yeah, one of the things I liked the most was that feeling of impeding doom on every character.

This is my first time and i'm trying to blend both american and japanese tradition. hope ya like it!

Time:Both modern and ancient

The Main char(workin on some names)is a 15 yr old mercenary living a normal life that only he knows about and completing missions and such. what he doesn't know about was that when he was little a crazed scientist melded his body with one of the 8 scattered parts of a legendary demon inside him to see what the effects would be. Unfortunately, he is killed in the rage of the main char. He was told that his parents died in a mission to liberate a local town. However, they died fusing with one of the eight parts and ultimately destroying their own bodies. Time has passed and the town looks to the main character as someone who needs to be protected. Other enemies are looking to obtain the power within this child. For should they be able to obtain even one of the missing parts, they would have unbelievable power. In this manga, bounty hunters, killers , organizations and even allied towns will do whatever it takes to obtain the strongest part of the demon which lies in the main char, the Demon's soul. However the main char looks for peaceful solutions and can be persuaded each way. Who's idea of peace is right? Will peace be an opportunity to wage war, to live in happiness or perhaps.... the rebirth of the planet? Ultimately the fate of the world lies within him. It will be up to him to establish the true idea of peace.

Post too long. Click to view the whole post or the thread page.

Post your manga plot ideas... (529)

1 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2006-11-11 23:11 ID:OoTDdlRR

I'll start.

I've had quite a few ideas for comics/manga in my time, but I've always been too lazy to do anything about them. These are free to use if you want to, and if you want I'll supply more plot/plans for any of them. For most of these I had fleshed them out more than just the summary.

I guess a few of these would also make good web comics.

So, i need GREAT book ideas, i am an experienced writer and i've been bummed out, i'll give you credit in the book. Preferably a manga style but i do not really care. Also keep it it the range of not too adult-ish but like... tokyo ghoul or just... what some 16 year old reads.

How about a parody of K-on about an all girl band (one dresses like mio, and another dresses like ibuki from dnaganronpa), but the only song they know how to play is "March of the SOD" by Stormtroopers of Death. despite this they are number one band in the world surpassing even DethKlok. To have your song covered by the band is considered greatest honor (they still play March of the SOD, but actually sing the lyrics of the your song the way you meant for it to be sung)! When they not on tour or performing they travel through out time and space in a blue police box solving mysteries (Doctor Who and Scooby Doo Parody). Also rest of time they wear Asian school girl uniform. all the girls are college age.

Yotsuba&! (23)

1 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2009-03-16 15:29 ID:rUX2O5Y6

I am surprised a thread was not made before, but anyway here you can talk about Yostuba&! and all its wonderfullness.
My favorite characters are Koiwai and Fuuka, and they double as a good couple even though that would make Koiwai a pedo. Yotsuba herself is adorable and can really make you happy and stuff.

Who be your favorite characters?

14 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2014-04-18 00:42 ID:1mcAVmJY

I love this manga. It's a great introduction to reading Japanese.

Yanda is good.

16 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2015-02-11 12:24 ID:updRzaqr

Yanda is my favorite male character in the series.

The tricks he plays on Yotsuba are always funny.

17 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2015-03-27 08:24 ID:L9Xf5sOy

The art style is really nice. I like how there's all the really pretty and detailed backgrounds which contrast nicely with the more simple (not bland or boring, just simple) character designs. The language is simple and easy to understand for kids, and the format almost seems to be made to teach kids a new word every chapter. But, there's also humor and cuteness to keep adults entertained too. Azuma-sensei really is a genius.

I bought the first 12 volumes in Japanese so that had some light material to practice reading with, and I'm glad I did. It feels really good to understand a section and be able to laugh about a gag that I understood without having to look up any words.

Recommend me a new manga! (12)

1 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2017-05-15 11:32 ID:wjDl1ff8

Please recommend me a new manga to read. I'm very bored, and I need a new one to read. I loved Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the shell, and Serial Experiments Lain. Thanks in advance!

3 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2017-07-01 12:05 ID:xscmqqDT

Blame's good, but I'd rate Abara above it. Biomega is very long, and sort of boring, so I'd place it behind Blame.

If you want something that's less sci-fi, I'd wholeheartedly recommend Kurosawa: Legend of the Strongest Man and its sequel. They're both very good.

4 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2017-08-23 12:06 ID:yhFvrnu9

Thirding Blame!. Very good.
Berserk reminded me a lot of Texhnolyze (since, you mentioned you liked Lain). Not cyberpunk at all though. My other personal favs include Oyasumi Punpun and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei but idk if you'd be interested in them.

Do you normally buy manga? Or What makes you buy a manga? (30)

1 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2012-03-11 01:31 ID:ZsvYDh1C

I'm poor and broke as you can get so piracy is generally my only default option. But if I find a manga that is of superb quality, then if I can, I buy it.
Provided of course that it ever even gets printed in the states/english.

21 Post deleted.

22 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2015-09-06 17:44 ID:WKlQIU1V

I don't like buying manga generally, it feels like a huge waste of space and getting a digital copy to read on a tablet is just more convenient, but having physical copies of volumes I like or complete series (if short) is nice. Only other reason I bother with buying manga is to support localization of something I really care about and wish for it to be successful (JoJo hard cover release and LotGH novel for example). Otherwise I get it in Japanese or buy artbooks from the series instead.

I rarely buy manga, this is mainly because of the poor quality and format of the printing.
I buy a lot of comics in the trade paperback format but manga is usually printed in a smaller format with lower quality paper, and lacks things like gutters.
The few mangas I've bought have been outliers in quality, these are mangas released from drawn and quarterly and a few reprintings from fantagraphics.

29 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2020-01-10 06:44 ID:Bk17U3Sr

I usually buy manga that I've read from Book Off, they have a good sized selection for pretty low prices. Reading online is convenient, but holding a book in my hands feels much better in comparison.

30 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2020-07-30 02:39 ID:y8M1W/Sy

Oddly, my preference is similar to yours for non-manga books but the opposite for manga in particular. There is something distinctly satisfying about being able to pinch-zoom each panel and page to the size of my liking, particularly as someone with nearsightedness and high astigmatism.

This preference may also have something to do with the fact that my non-manga reading choices lie exclusively within the realm of non-fiction; that would be a fitting allegory, with the analogue/tangible publiching medium representing the contents of the analogue/real world and the digital/intangible medium representing the digital/fictional world. Such is fodder for another discussion altogether, however~

Mahou Shoujo Manga (4)

1 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2019-05-17 18:54 ID:xqNOWh8e

Are there any original manga series in the magical girl genre that aren't adaptations or spin-offs/adaptations from other media (i.e. anime, games, VN, etc). I know the MS genre was basically born on TV but I'm wondering if there was or is any franchise or series that only remained in manga form.
