Honestly. It's not even for moral reasons, I think the RIAA can rot in hell.
Yet I still think piracy is stupid. I'd rather own the actual CD/Vinyl/Cassette rather then downloading a file. It seems like nowadays everything is digital, nobody cares about physical attachments anymore.. I love opening my mailbox and finding a package of music. It's so much better.
Not all digital media is pirated.
I like when the disks come with posters, lots of the band's pictures, things like that. If they don't, I just buy the digital files.
Fuck DRM, though.
I've never understood why people would waste money on things that they'll only really scrutinize once or twice. With books, I at least get that there's a lot of depth to them, and that takes time to understand, and you can mark up the books, too. But with media, it seems far more convenient and economic, and it is also a lot less egotistical because digital media prevents you from allowing your possessions to shape how you or others perceive yourself.
shiver me timbers! without piracy, how are we supposed to spite the artists that we hate? after Metallica sold out in the 90s i downloaded all there new stuff and posted it the files on as many file sharing sites as i could, NOT because i liked it, but just to spite them for sucking so bad. mind you i only did this with there later albums. the stuff they made in the 80s is still awesome and i would never pirate them. having "Master of Puppets" on CD is cool.
