Do you like to play
Or what about Guilty Gear?

I like 月姫
All characters are unique and cool.
The fighting game named Melty Blood is also interesting.

Guilty Gear is interesting.
All characters and BGM are very cool.
There is interest different from other fighting games.
I love Dizzy(*´Д`)

I've heard that Japanese CG artists are very obsessive about copyright.
Like, they don't even let other people link to their site without permission.
That's why "Link Free" must be said in Japan (there's nothing like this in the USA).
Is that true?

If so, it's a lot like furries in the US.

>>54
Many CG sites are written "forbids using a picture without notice."
However, it seldom has a meaning.
It is OK if it is the grade which uses individually or is stuck on a bulletin board.
It is good if it does not use in business.

About link, many sites are written "link free."
If it has written so, it can link freely.

Is it true that posting doujinshi scans caused trouble on Futaba Channel?
I read this in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futaba_Channel

> About link, many sites are written "link free."
> If it has written so, it can link freely.

The thing is, you can actually link to any website whether they like it or not. There's no law against linking.

>>56
It's true.
In practice, it is illegal.
But, even if there is a problem legally, a complaint hardly comes from the author of doujinshi or the janitor of CG site.
The greater part of such problems are connived.

>>57
It is the morals of the network community in Japan.
It will be disliked if linked without notice except "link free".

I think your English is pretty good, you could post in any board on 4-ch!

Someone explained it as "you may hotlink my banner".
So it would be a "free link" (not using your own site's bandwidth for the image).

I don't know if that's actually the meaning those japanese sites use, but it makes sense.

What do you think the biggest difference between American and Japanese otaku is? In the way they discuss things or appreciate the media, for example.

American otaku are more accepted in society. We don't have as many hikikomori. Also, America is so big that otaku aren't as centralized as in Japan. We don't have an AKIBA or Comiket, for instance. (At least, not that I know of.) We don't have by far as many 同人誌家。

Accepted? I would say they are just obscure. If they were more common I'm sure the media would go just as apeshit in the US as they already have in Japan.

Sorry, I only understood a little of what you said... maybe I shouldn't post here, since I'm still studying the language and can't read it properly yet... But thanks for the reply!

It is indeed an interesting game, but I don't ever see it coming to my country (NL) so it's hard for me to play (and if I'd try to import everything it would be very expensive). I wish they made a Nintendo DS version, I think it would fit perfectly!

Sounds cool! I don't have a nicovideo account so I couldn't watch a movie, but I do see many people are obsessed with the game (and the girls.) :)

Yep. A Nikkei newspaper's reporter commented that there has been lot of in-name-only virtual idols, but the IdolM@ster girls must be the first "truly popular" virtual idol(s). IMO, Hatsune Miku will follow the title of "popular virtual idol".

You can find the movies on Youtube as well.

Well, instead of >>1 I'll try to answer your questions.

I believe that one of the obstacles towards forming a proper "nerd culture" in the United States is copyright. Sure, there is some of it in places like fanfiction.net and livejournal.com (it goes under a different name, "fandom" rather than "otaku"), but the limitations of copyright are very limiting.

94 名前: 93 : 2008-09-27 03:23 ID:K42HLWOY

Do you not agree with me, >>1?

I don't understand why you are trying to get consent from >>1 for your opinion.
He is Japanese, so I can't know anything about the situation of "nerd culture" in the United States.

96 名前: 93 : 2008-09-28 16:06 ID:K42HLWOY

Perhaps I can explain then. Unlike in Japan, where doujinshi has been ruled legal in some court case i. e. not breaking copyright law (at least that is what I have heard), in the United States, there has been no such court ruling, and companies continue to sue for derivative works.

To form a question from hearesay is hardly a sound way of reasoning. If it's indeed true, you should at least quote a reference to the ruling, if not the ruling itself.

98 名前: 93 : 2008-09-30 15:38 ID:K42HLWOY

I do not remember the reference, I just remember hearing about it.
