My hobby is shooting my guns in the desert (at small lizards and cactus, and the occasional abandoned car). My gun collection includes a Yugolavian SKS, a Springfield Armory M1A, and a Colt 1911 .45ACP pistol. Octopus technique is an inside joke, actually, so I wasn't really being serious (it means the woman accidentally bites your penis and makes it bleed...ouch).

How scary !
Owning a gun is prohibited in our country,so I don't know
how it feels.
I can imagine a scene that you polish your gun while whistling
in your free time.
Don't point the muzzle of your gun at me please ! lol

11 名前: Mikey : 2006-08-08 20:19 ID:3x+APFZC

Hehe, actually safety is extremely important when shooting a gun, even in a gigantic desert like the Sonora. I shoot my rifles and pistols into the side of a hill, away from the direction of the city (random gunfire is a felony offense!). Also, when my guns are loaded, they ALWAYS point toward the hill, and no one is allowed onto the range until all guns are unloaded and the action is open. I take safety very seriously!

I actually don't get to shoot too much during the summer, because the temperatures in Southern Arizona reach 50 degrees Celsius on average. As you can imagine, it's not fun to be outside in that weather. Thats why air conditioning is a requirement in Phoenix building codes!

I turned over the pages of world atlas and made sure where Sonora desert is.so , do you live in Phoenix ?
I'm very curious about what it is like. Please tell me anything about it.
I live in Osaka Japan and It's very hot here in summer too.
average temperature here is 36 degrees Celsius but may be you can't stand it and get away from here as quickly as you can.
because humidity level is extremely high.
Southern Arizona is high temperature but dry weather isn't it ?

By the way ,I sometimes watch CNN news report on TV
and weather report seem to be announced by means of Fahrenheit.
Do you use both of them ? I mean Celsius and Fahrenheit.

15 名前: Mikey : 2006-08-10 00:33 ID:3x+APFZC

Yes, I've lived in Phoenix for the last 10 years, and I must say it is a very nice place to live!

Weather:
The summers here, obviously, are rather hot. Last summer the temperatures were hot enough that I literally cooked an egg on the hood of my car (it was quite good!). Most of the time we spend outside is in our swimming pool, but we don't go outside much during the day.

The winters in Phoenix are excellent, the temperature stays around 60 degrees (Fahrenheit, I said 50 C in my last post for your benefit!) in the daytime, and can get as low as 20F at night (it snowed in 1997!). This is the best time of year to visit Phoenix, and the state of Arizona, in fact.

Scenery:
The State of Arizona actually has a very diverse climate, The southern parts of the state being mostly desert, and the only habitat of the Saguaro Cactus
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saguaro_Cactus ). The name desert can be misleading, as the Sonora can be quite lush and beautiful (http://www.desertmuseum.org/), full of all sorts of wildlife. Northern Arizona begins at a very distinct boundary, the Mogollon Rim (a plateau), which rises 5000 feet above the desert floor, separating the two portions of the state (there are two highways that lead up through the rim, so there aren't any problems there).

I'll follow up with more information later, so for now, here is my e-mail address.

Hussein sentenced to death.
Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death in Baghdad on Nov. 5 for ordering the killing of 148 Shiites who had allegedly tried to assassinate him in 1982.
The verdict came in an event-filled trial that began in October 2005.
Saddam denied the charges against him and has appealed the verdict in his case. Saddam greeted the guilty verdict by saying:"Long live the people.Long live the Arab nation.
Down with the spies. God is Great."
U.S. President George W. Bush welcomed the news that Saddam had been given the ultimate penalty.
"Saddam Hussein's trial is a milestone in the Iraqi people's efforts to replace the rule of a tyrant with the rule of law,"
Bush said in a statement issued following the verdict.

the Boston Red Sox will pay a record 6 billion yen for the right to nigotiate a contract with Seibu Lions ace pitcher Matsuzaka Daisuke, the Japanese professional baseball club announced on Nov. 15.
The amount, about 51.1 million dollars, is well above the 13.1 million dollars (roughly 1.4 billion yen) that the Seattle Mariners paid in 2000 to the Orix Bule Wave to get Suzuki Ichiro, until now the greatest amount paod to negotiate with a Japanese baseball player through the posting system.
Matsuzaka left for the United States on Nov.15 to inspect the Red Sox facilities. He was to meet with his agent in preparation for negotiating the contract.
The Red Sox have won the American League pennant 11 times and the World Series six times .

N. Korea sparks fear with nuclear test

North Korea sent shockwaves throughout the world when it conducted a nuclear test on Oct. 9.
Prime Minister Abe Shinzo called the test"unpardonable" and said eastern Asia was "entering a new, dangerous nuclear age."
The United Nations Security Council passed a resolution condemning North Korea and imposing sanctions on it.
Japan already had sanctions on the communist country following missile tests in July. It tightened the penalties after the nuclear test by banning all North Korean imports and forbidding North Korean ships to enter Japanese waters.
North Korea's test also sparked calls for Japan to at least debate over whether the nation should also arm itself with nuclear weapons, but Abe said the nation will continue to abide by the three non-nuclear principles of not possessing, not producing and not permitting the introduction of nuclear weapons into Japan.

Inventor of 'Cup Noodle ' Ando Momofuku dies at 96

Osaka- Ando Momofuku, inventor of the instantramen noodle and founding chairman of Nissin Food Products Co., died of a heart attack on Jan. 5. He was 96.
Born in Taiwan, Ando initially set up a trading company in Taipei before founding a wholesale company in Osaka in 1933.
Ando decided to deal in food after seeing people suffer from poor diet during World War 2.
Later, he built a laboratory in the garden of his home in Ikeda , Osaka Prefecture, and began developing instant noodles there. By trial and error Ando found a method to dry noodles using hot oil, and finnally succeeded in the development of the world's first instant noodle in 1958,called Chicken Ramen.
The instant noodle was a big hit, and his company marketed instant Cup Noodles in 1971.

Madrid fans may see more of Beckham

Madrid Spain
David Beckham may play again for Real Madrid after all.
Coach Fabio Capello sugested on Jan.17 that he may review his decision to stop Beckham from playing for the team following the former England captain's decision to join Los Angeles
Galaxy.
Beckham is a great professional and always trains with enthusiasm. The idea could change," Capello was quoted as saying by Madrid Web site.
Capello had said on Jan.13 that Beckham would only be able to train with Madrid until his contract expires in June. That came two days after Beckham announced that he would join the Major League Soccer team in August on a five-year deal reportedly worth US$250 million.
Despite his conciliatory comments, Capello continue to shun Beckham, and Ronaldo, on Jan.17 when he named his squad for a Copa del Rey game against Real Betis.
Ronald has been made available for transfer after an injury-plagued season in which he has failed to satisfy Capello.

Bush urges Congress to embrace Iraq policy
WASHINGTON
U.S.President George W. Bush wants Congress to give his controversial strategy for Iraq a chance to work.
Defiant Democrats say they'll use their newly won control over the House and Senate to oppose the deployment of an additional 21,500 troops.
In his State of the Union address, Bush appealed to the
Democratic-controlled Congress to work with him to face"difficult challenges and determined enemies" at home overseas.
"First, we must balance the federal budget. We can do so without raising taxes," he said. He urged lawmakers to send him legislation helping more Americans afford health insurance, reduce the nation's dependence on foregin oil, overhaul immigration laws and renew his signature education program.
Democrats, however, determined they would keep the public spotlight on the war, with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee expected to approve a nonbinding measure that rejects Bush's planned troop increase as "not in the national interest of the United States."
