Old version of windows (17)

Is there any clear disadvantage to using an old version of windows (xp, vista, 7) over windows 10? Are there any workarounds for those disadvantages?

Outside of MS propaganda about OH NOES SCARY HACKERS (when Windows 10 has destroyed more of my data with nonconsensually forced reboots than any virus or hacker ever did), the main practical issue you'll have is that newer software might not work depending on what version of the compiler it's made with. This is how they try to force you to "upgrade".

I have a virtual machine with 10 on it around for any eventualities, but 7 and xp still get the job done 95% of the time.

An easy solution is to just keep your files on a separate drive. Virus? Simply reinstall windows. Doing a clean install of 7 really doesn't take much time once you don't have to worry about transferring files.

Keeping your files on a separate drive is NOT proper protection against a "Virus". Modern viruses encrypt your files (on any drive connected). To truly protect your data you must do proper backups.

No advantages. Live in the future.

The advantage is not using the cancer that is Windows 10.

Instead of running obsolete and unsecure code run Linux lmao

The advatanges are various but the main desadvantage is literally:"old software"

Good thing that my shitty Windows 10 laptop has such a small hard drive that Microsoft ran out of enough space to keep pushing updates to and the Win 10 laptop was last update in like 2019.

P.S. This was sorta interesting -- I guess the point is that a lot of systems linked to corp.com as a default/placeholder value which could lead to bad things, if I remember correctly and didn't miss the point:

There is literally a switch that says about no updates.

The main disadvantage is not being able to run newer software that drop support for older versions of Windows, but in most cases you can still use the older versions that still work. Sometimes the programs will work even though they're no longer supported.

Here's also some advantages:
You can run old games and software easier. You can run old 16-bit DOS programs directly in CMD. Your system will be less of a target for newer viruses that mainly target Windows 10.

You can use Windows 7 these days pretty easily. Just don't be a retard

I use Windows 7, it just works. I'll keep using it as long as it's usable, I don't care about updates as they just keep adding more spyware these days so Microsoft can look at my dick pics and watch me jack off. After it's no longer usable I'll bite the bullet and use Linux with a DE that resembles Windows enough to not bother me.

There's always Linspire (AKA Lindows). https://www.linspirelinux.com/

i used windows xp for far too long, and windows 7 for several years after it stopped being supported. unpatched security holes start being abused to target corporations and governments without funding to upgrade, you start becoming vulnerable to literally getting viruses just by browsing the web through exploits in images and videos and even just javascript. it's absolutely not recommended.

if you dont want to get screwed over, either get a supported version of windows or find yourself a nice comfy linux distro and style it like old windows themes.
