Otaku Culture (76)

Maybe I'm wrong, but it's occured to me that the culture in Japan towards anime is the same as the culture in America. Except perhaps the American culture is wilder. Groups of "geeks" are usually the people who are into it. Trying to make prove or disprove that it is more than just an activity for us social outcasts is to try to make us feel better about our current miserable dispositions.

It's not bad, being a geek.

It is Japanese.
I am surprised because there is a person who knows fate also in USA.
Do the be known of sentences of Fate/Stay Night and because a lot of big words not so used are being used long even by me Japanese, no do be knowns serious.
However, the opening Movie is quite good-looking.

very few of us have played the original games (tsukihime and fate). they're very hard to translate. both of the anime series have been translated, so we've learned of fate and tsukihime through them.

He is surprised there are fans of Fate/Stay Night outside of Japan. The text used in the game is complex and inclusion of a lot of rarely used words makes it difficult to follow even for a native speaker. The opening animation is very high quality.

Western "otaku" are very different to japanese otaku. Japanese otaku are more shy and very rude i think. they push around you in lines and in crowded stores and never saying sorry. also they like strange things.

i think US otakus are more open about it, like its more acceptable (sort of). dunno i hate how some people are way to hardcore in it, and like if they dont know something they try to guess what it is and sound all smart.

like i was at AX this year, and watching the music videos, and there was a music video for Fate/stay night and tsukihime (had game clips too from their games), and like theses nerds in the back didnt know what it was, and guess it was like Guilty gear or Fatal Fury, and i was like "wtf?", seriously please dont say anything or making assuptions if u dont really know what it is.

anyways, i try to keep my otaku-ness down becuase i know that the people i hang out with wouldnt want it to come out... i dont look like im otaku (cuz i dress nice and stuff), but i know a lot of animes just because i watch them during my free time and dl whenever im away (i have this habit that i must dl something while im out or i feel like i wasted good time to dl soemthing).

different level of "otaku-ness" and cultural background i guess...
but it's not it's not entirely rude, more of shy and afraid of peps, since most of otaku aren't treated nicely by so are called "normal"

>>12
lol, guess you're right..
and btw, being an otaku doens't mean that we must look like an otaku, and what does otaku look lie anyway ^_^

just being ourself

I'm curious... Is there such thing as a female otaku in Japan? Because in the U.S. there are also girls who are into anime and stuff. And there's nothing wrong being a fangirl while other "normal" girls don't understand why we're interested in it.

Boy, this reminds me back in jr. high and high school. Thank God I'm out of there.

Yes, definitely. Especially yaoi/shounen ai. I walked into the yaoi manga section at a store by accident and there were dozens of awkward geeky looking girls pawing through the boyporn.

Riiight. Whatever, man.

I wanted to buy my girlfriend some manga, and took a month to work up the courage to go into the Shoujo Manga section of our local Kinokuniya Bookstore (San Fransisco, CA, USA). But she's very otaku, and I know many women who are otaku, which is good. I heard the ratio of male/female gamers in the USA was very close to 50/50, too.

I don't like letting people know I'm otaku because kids at my school make fun of me for it. (n_n;) I'm very shy- I suppose I'm a stereotypical otaku with no friends, actually. That's okay though because I always have my anime and manga to come home to and talk with!

I think that in America, "otakus" are more united just by the fact that they're into anime in general. Meanwhile, in Japan otakus are segregated into their own very distinct genres like those who like meganeko or such-and-such anime, and aren't as prone to mingle with others.

I found it the little differences in parallel traits interesting. Guys carry their otaku goods in backpacks or shoulderbags, but the girls tote them around in stylish wheeled suitcases. Their cafes put more emphasis on the elegance of the atmosphere than cuteness.
