Here's my reply:
Learn C, then lisp.
When you're done, and you feel quite familiar with the languages, learn C++. Or, fuck that, just learn common lisp instead of C++.
Common lisp has most of C++'s features that C doesn't have.
Paradigms, features, etc are more important than syntax.
When you're done, study something more OS-related, or networking, or encryption, or 3D, or whatever floats your boat.
