On the other hand, it's possible that the men were falsely accused. Not necessarily that your gf is a liar (though that is a possbility), but she didn't help to nab the right person. Imagine how terrible it would be to be accused of rape. It's pretty much a situation of losing no matter what, the deck is stacked against you and you have to prove yourself innocent, not get proven guilty. You said you're 2000+ miles away, so you may not know the whole story. And as for all of the other posts here who are wishing castrations and such on these two guys really should think about people before they judge. We always go "oh what a terrible person" when someone else is in the courtroom, but they next day it could me or you. What actual evidence has she shown you, OP?
