if it's possible to sustainably provide basic needs like food and housing and medical care for every human, i want that done.
there are a few issues in the personal realm which the state has a legitimate reason to act on (e.g. Fair Housing Act in response to neighborhood segregation in the United States). for everything else, people should look after themselves and those they love.
capitalism doesn't offer useful choices.

5 Name: Citizen : 2008-04-12 07:25 ID:gftbFBgn

>>4
not really. libertarianism is opposed to statism; socialism is opposed to capitalism.
your confusion is probably because most models of socialism depend on an authoritarian state.
it's possible to be socialist on a smaller scale, such as in communes. the key meaning of 'libertarian' in this context is that such associations should have voluntary membership and operate via direct democracy.

Hardcore fascism, except with a universal twist, replace racism with indoctrination and meritocracy, combine all religions (everything, scientology, atheism, apathy, whatever) into 1 new all inclusive state religion, declare that the state is the world government and all other countries are provinces that are being drawn closer to the state, the economy is organised into virtually unrestricted multinational corporations instilled with doctrines of monopolising technology and manipulating foreign governments. The national cult is based on the state religion but also with logic and discipline in decision making with an emphasis on longevity, fascist dictatorships in the past tend to be short lived and unstable but highly efficient during their short life.

Keynesian capitalism with a twist, where corporations organise into oligopolies with support from the state as they aggressively lobby it and integrate their lobbyism as an inherent part of the government. I also like the idea of huge powerful financiary organisations that infulence entire nations' economies, so some sort of international "monetary fund" should come into place somewhere, and maybe some notation agencies too. Also, government agencies should be able to ignore laws and the constitution in order to be more efficient.

My only political concern at this juncture is that national governments re-introduce capital controls, ideally with a Bancor-style system to create an incentive for balanced trade between nations (in short, a new accounting unit named the bancor is created, and an international clearing union. international trade is conducted in bancor, and if you run an excessive trade deficit you are penalized, but if you run an excessive trade surplus then the excess is taken from you. this creates an incentive to alter your national policy to rebalance trade [since your becomes "use it or lose it"] and thus prevent the main problem of capital controls: unbalanced trade throwing everything off.

This would return the power of policymaking to national governments instead of restricting it to narrow bans of opinion out of fear of international capital owners. If - for example - Jeremy Corbyn won a UK election, he could impose new corporation or income taxes without fear of a run on the pound or an exodus of wealthy people - because said people could only export their pounds with state approval, and the state could reject that. They could personally leave, but their wealth would stay in the country. The wealthy would have to take an interest in ensuring the stability and well-being of their home nations since leaving would become a very expensive choice. Outsourcing business would become more difficult, encouraging job creation domestically instead, while the general structure of the international clearing union would give smaller and poorer nations a much stronger voice. You stop globalism as currently ongoing, while fostering good trade and relations between nations by making things fair.

Probably won't happen, though. USA fucked it up in 1945 and I don't doubt they're content with the order of things as they are now. It's a shame, as both from the right and the left it's ideal. Alas, the right are infested with libertarian types who'd see it as a state power-grab against the individual (instead of something that actually empowers most individuals by making their votes matter) and the left are utterly rudderless at the moment.

Seeing politics in an ideological manner is Pleb-tier at best. You should change your politics according to the situation. I don't like fascism and would prefer Christian feudal monarchs as per the Early-High Middle Ages, but fascism is a lot more helpful (partly because of how versatile it is) right now than feudal monarchs will ever be, not until the inevitable collapse of Western society a la every other civilization to come before it.

People keep saying that everything is going to collapse, but I kind of doubt it. We're so advanced at this point that everything's become self sustaining. Even if one country collapses, the internet has already spread its culture far enough that it doesn't matter much in the long term. The only way things will really fall apart is if a cataclysmic event happens that wipes everything out

I'm a Social Democrat. Though, to be honest, I find that being too into politics makes people's personalities unbearable. They stop being people and start spewing nonsense.

Whether people are living life solely to make "SJWs" angry, or if someone is constantly looking at every little thing in life as a system of things designed to suppress minorities - I can't really stand either of it. Nothing is more rotten than modern political discourse. This doesn't mean that right political opinions don't exist, of course - which is why I classify myself as a Social Democrat.

And don't get me started on the extremes.

Libertarian Socialism if I find that left-wing economics is correct
Right-wing / Paleo Libertarianism if I find that capitalism is the way to go, and I end up caring more about traditional/conservative values, but I don't want to force it on everyone
Some form of Monarchy if I find that authoritarianism is the way to go and I want to force traditional values on everyone

In political philosophy, I follow Evola, Hans-Dietrich Sander, and, to a lesser degree, DeMaistre. In economy, Chesterton, Belloc, etc.
Evola makes a very good case for the Traditional system from an occult perspective. "As above, so below". But he also makes a good general case for a pyramidal structure in society: Man as the king of his family, the village headman as the king of the village, the local noble as the king of the local land, etc. all the way up to the Emperor, as living God (this aspect can't really be explained in short, so let's just say he is to represent the Sun-God).
Thus, everyone knows where he stands, who he has duties towards, who he leads, who he is bound to obey. But at the same time, everything is local enough to not go crazy - people rarely wish to live next to an abject slave. It also provides a lot of freedom, because feudal governments by definition aren't centralized and thus relatively weak in enforcement.
Sander makes a similar point, mainly adding a more materialistic reason to the supremacy of the Emperor over the Priesthood and showing the good example of the Staufer dynasty.
DeMaistre makes the negative argument - why Republicanism and democracy is bad - inevitably resulting in tyranny of the masses voting themselves more benefits, with no regard to general welfare, inevitable orgies of bloodshed akin to the French revolution, etc.
The economic thinkers I mentioned argue for Distributism - "Three Acres and a Cow". Small-scale agriculture as the center of the economy for a sensible outlook - there is no other industry without agriculture, and added stability. Craftsmen to be organized in local guild structures, ordered by profession, not managerial/worker status, ensuring everyone can make an independent living as long as he tries, but the living varies based on his skill.
There really is no way to make the argument to overthrow nearly the last thousand years of history without sounding like a lunatic. The best I can say, consider the modern world, and the kind of life it leads to, and if you're happy with it. And if modernity is wrong, then might it not be wrong at the core, rather than some minor misstep that may have happened everywhere modernity took hold?
If you're interested, I recommend you read as much of their works as you're able to (I don't think Sanders got much English translation). The Economic thinkers are a lot more fun to read, so maybe start there..
