I heard about these series a lot, but I never had a chance to play any of games.
This is the only board where I'm not afraid to say that I know nothing about them.
Please, teach me how to get these games and, please, explain their popularity.

To get into Touhou you need nothing but commitment and it's always a plus to not have a life when it comes to games like these. Then you have to devote a couple of months on just trying to get through the game (whichever you have or something) playing Normal Mode (there's quite a gap between easy and normal [varies], so it's better to go through normal mode and just bite the bullet).
Each character have a hitbox, which is the little invisible magical box on your character, that counts the hits when colliding with the enemy bullets. You can get the Touhou Remodelling Pack somewhere, which makes the playing a tad bit easier by turning the hitbox visible.
You shoot with Z (as a default) and use bombs with X. Bombs kill everything in the area. You turn on the focus mode with shift and it slows you down, making bullet dodging and aiming a little easier.
Then you just go and shoot the living shit out of moe-moe characters and that's that.

People who don't appreciate Touhou need to do some more research about it or simply ignore it, because they are clearly don't understand anything about it.
The best anime ever, without any doubt, is Touhou. Not only is the plot amazing, it delivers important themes about society and has a lot of symbols about religion. Pisses me off that people don't understand how beautiful this anime is and I just want to punch them in the face.

I don't think that there's something wrong with me, because I played 9.5 about a month ago on Normal without any trouble at all.

It's true you'll never meet Youmu in person, but there are plenty of ways to be close to her without ever needing to meet her - you can play against (or as) her in the Touhou games themselves, or collect images of her from the 'boorus, or read doujin involving her, or even get a dakimakura.
Or you could kidnap a young Japanese girl, dye her hair grey, dress her as Youmu, and keep her locked up in your house. The choice is yours.

I'm sure there are plenty of religious and philosophical beliefs that propose you can meet Youmu in some sort of afterlife or in spirit. Even if you're more nihilistic than that, you can always try hallucinogens!
