Human language is too complex to explain away succinctly, but one thing I'd point out is that Japanese pop art really values the way words feel, so since it's already been being done for over a century, plundering the English dictionary is a very convenient and socially acceptable way to find a different range of expression. Even when there is a perfectly good wago/kango available, and even when the use of English doesn't make sense in English.
