I'm starting to get back into weight lifting with my new friend. He wanted to hang out at bars and restaurants in an expensive area. He makes more money than me, so he could afford to do that a lot, but I can't. So I suggested that we hang out doing something cheaper (and more helpful too) -- weight lifting.
I saw a personal trainer a while ago and he came up with routines for different muscle groups (with an emphasis on building muscle). So I took these routines and I'm using them with my friend. So far we're lifting 3 times a week.
When I used to lift back in the day, I did it by myself, so it was harder to get motivated to go to the gym. But it's much easier when you have someone else who is expecting you to go with them too.
Two weeks.

I never went to the gym all my life (too worried about what others would think of me because I'm skinny), but recently a colleague of mine started going to the gym again after a long hiatus due to corona. He's very much into power-lifting sort of things and I've watched every single youtube video on exercises and gym memes. I told him about a gym by my place and he dropped by to check it out. He ended up liking it a lot and signed up. Long story short I now go with him and we hold each other somewhat accountable for showing up. I don't have some specific program that I follow, but I try to put lots of volume in there.
Honestly, this dude is the reason I haven't quit this job.
I hope you and your friend continue going.
