I disagree, aside from using a chat app like Whatsapp or Facebook to talk to people you know IRL, you don't need to participate. Even if the internet is serious business that affects the world, it doesn't matter unless you're a real celebrity or athlete because nobody cares about what you think anyway. Unless you're a news obsessed-weirdo that needs a constant stream of current events.
