I'm currently dealing with my crazy best friend who thinks he's going through a "manic episode" but the dude hasn't been sober for like two months straight and he gets defensive when you point out that his crazy symptoms are in fact drug abuse symptoms. He's desperate for any diagnosis besides substance abuse disorder.
