I agree to an extent, similar to how Netflix and Spotify were just more convenient than piracy.

But since people are always going to pirate/circumvent measures anyway, the best model would be if it was optional and you could just download then run a game without some online account-based chat app (complete with trading cards, stickers, avatars, whatever else).

You're buying something. They already have every incentive to make that as easy and open as possible. I just don't get why PC gamers (the ones who like their own customization and modding and whatnot) became fine with Steam, then complain about Rockstar, Epic Games, whatever else.
