They may have an interesting culture and superior creativity developed from centuries of isolation and consumption of sea food but at the end of the day they have the same desires and fall for the same tricks as everyone else.
They were the center of the world entertainment-wise for a while, but they are constantly getting both selfcensoring and externally pressured into getting censored on that front. Entertainment is getting lamer and lamer.
It's a shame the Japanese film industry is getting crushed by more popular alternatives like anime or toku. There was a time in the 80s/90s (same as everywhere else), where films were getting more niche and candid. People were finding different ways to make film interesting, then that fell on its ass in the 2000s-present.
What's toku? I heard live action japanese stuff is still pretty alive. To be fair, everything japanese slowly goes to shit starting from 1997, it still has some neat works more by inertia than through anything else.
If you consider the Japanese to be overrated, do you have an example of some country that's properly rated?
Japanese entertainment is overrated but Japanese people are pretty cool.
