What do you guys think the internet will be like in 20 years time? 50 years?
Will we be able to plug our very senses into the computer to experience directly? Will it be the same as now but with less privacy?

Privacy is dead.
Thank you Sergey Brin and Mark Zuckerberg.

I've always thought 40 or 50 years from now, that someone would invent something better than a computer and it will surpass everything a computer can do. I wouldn't be surprised if something like this came out. Technology is a thing that just keeps on evolving. People will figure out how to create something bigger and better than the internet. I can't imagine how this machine would work or what it would have that makes it much more superior to our technology of today. But, if something like this did come out eventually, I would still stay on the internet.

  1. The big thing that is already happening is quantum computing. One of the visions scientists have of QC is that you can instantly tell if a packet you sent has been seen by a third party, because of the wave-particle duality and how an observer changes that. It will be a big step for Internet security, hopefully.
  2. New technology that reads and emits 'smell' or 'touch' files will have reached the Internet, and lots of websites based around these will spring up. Smell sites will be trolled to oblivion with digital 'stink bombs', and raids of websites will become much more sophisticated than just posting porn and gore.
  3. Google will find a million new ways to invade your privacy, and one of two things will happen:
>Google will slowly but surely lose its audience and favour to Yahoo or another competitor, or:
>Someone will sue them on behalf of millions of affected people and they'll run out of money

4. Textboards will become the dominant form of anonymous communication and supersede imageboards. At least that's what I hope.

The more people use it, the lower the standard of quality will get.

Too true.

Probably just going to be the same except that networking will be beyond humanity's comprehension.

Completely fucked. You'll probably need to use an internet license given to you by the government to even connect to the internet.

Signed. Most likely some kind of tech-bridged telepathy or some such abracadabra. Just look at next next x200 years into the future gen video gaming, it'll be all about that VR. The next destination is going to be inside of that head.
