It's looking like 4chan is economically struggling and needs to scale back or go under. Not a good investment on the part of the Japanese. On the other hand, our beloved 4-ch, in it's state of minimalist backwater, is well suited to be the cockroach of 'chans that survives them all.
You'd have to be a big fucking retard to actually believe Hiroyuki saying 4chan is in trouble.

Actually, I do believe it. The model for that site is untenable in the long term, as ad revenue from fleshlight shops will only go so for to pay the hosting for such high traffic.
Scaling back (limiting pic size as he said) and dumping liabilities like /pol/ (bad PR) could lower costs and maybe get more revenue.
Maybe Japan was planing this all along, to revert chan domination to the homeland. Buy 4chan and then sink it...it's Pearl Harbor all over again.
>it's Pearl Harbor all over again.
heh
I will admit, though, a part of me likes the idea that 4chan might go. I know it's kind of juvenile of me, especially when a site like 4chan is sorely needed in the mainstream, where most social media sites prefer to exploit, abuse, and generally just fuck over their massive user base, but I also really want imageboards to be an elitist, underground thing. I want that relatively small community of nerds whose passion in their respective interests easily exceeded what quality control and moderation had ever done.
Even though 4chan is pretty much the reason why internet culture is what it is today, I still get bugged when huge figureheads such as the news and celebrities like Lauren Mayberry or that Martin Shkreli guy namedrop 4chan, because, to me, it feels like they're not mentioning 4chan for what it is: a great medium for users to communicate with one another, but just to inflate their reputation and inflate their egos, and that kind of mysticism, in my opinion, is what's stopping 4chan and other imageboards from interfacing and being cherished by the mainstream in the same way Facebook or Snapchat is. Too many people are coming into imageboards obsessed with the image itself than in using it to discuss things that would otherwise be embarrassing, or reputation-ruining. Hell, you can even discuss normal stuff. 4chan isn't always great, but it draws in an audience that is waay better than the sort of masturbatory crowd thank makes up sites like Reddit. What other outlet exists that are like that? I need a website like 4chan in my life. I think we all do.

LOL
got a problem with that, nerd?
Dumb gaijin think Hiroyuki will sell the site. He did the same thing with 2channel a few years back.
It's a trick!

Milo Yiannopoulos is also considering bidding for 4chan. Will he turn the whole thing into one big /pol/?
The thing about 4chan is is that there are boards like /m/ that can have some really interesting threads on stuff like obscure classic anime. I remember an /m/ thread where a guy uploaded a slew of vinyl rips from "digital trip" albums which were Moog synth covers of OSTs from classics like Captain Harlock...great shit.
There's just a lot of chaff to sort through.
there is no financial trouble. hiro has advertisers. the site is not dying and he told shkreli he has no interest in selling.
you people oversensationalize things because you have nothing going on in your daily life
hiro did the same thing with 2ch a few years back
rinse and repeat
It's still pretty surreal to me how people had been joking about paid-only boards and 4chan Gold accounts for years and now it's actually happened. Who knows now what wacky stunt Nishimura's gonna pull next? Wouldn't surprise me if Hiro gets booted again for letting credit card info get compromised.
I long for the day we no longer discuss every single 4chan event here.
Boy am I tired of it. I'll just leave it at that.
everybody here is a newfag from 4chan didnt cha know?
He pretended like the site was on the verge of shutting down but in reality it wasn't.
ya esp. with the half page ads that hiroshima has put on every board page
