I have a lot of interest in this topic, but I came way too late to the scene for the full history on text boards. My question is, was there ever an English-language text board that rivaled the fast boards on 2channel? Also, is there a good resource to learn about places like world2ch? If not, perhaps it's a good idea to work on a collaborative resource to preserve this history before it's lost.
Not to say text-only sites are dead though. I made my own the other day (can I link it?), but without a pool to draw users from, I have no idea how these sites can find activity in this day and age. What do you think?

Yes, you can.

https://namelessrumia.heliohost.org/w/doku.php?id=world2ch is your best bet.
>was there ever an English-language text board that rivaled the fast boards on 2channel?
Of course not, 2channel was literally the most popular BBS in the world, western forums and all included, despite only being Japanese.
https://bienvenidoainternet.org/bai.html is probably the only fast-pased western textboard and it's not even English.
Thanks! The second site is interesting, the layout looks better than either 2ch.sc or 5ch now. Also appreciate the first link, the info on 2ch on that site is cool.

probably CP like every other niche imageboard/textboard eventually succumbs to

Any proof that it was larger than PTT.cc?

Just going by what's claimed on Wikipedia, PTT's peak is apparently 500,000 posts a day while 2ch gets 2.5 million a day. That's a big gap. No idea if that info is reliable though, lol Wikipedia.
Taiwan has 24 million people while Japan has 126 million. I think that would make it hard for them to be in the same league unless Taiwanese people are vastly more online/into textboards than Japanese people, or mainlanders dodging the firewall and the Chinese diaspora love using PTT.
Also, motherfucking TELNET? Seriously?
Do they at least have Trade Wars 2002 running?
Of course, and they were all a decade before any chan. They were dial-in BBS

...and it's gone. Really wish one of these "I'm gonna make a new textboard!" people would actually try to keep it running and not give up as soon as it doesn't get dozens of posts a day.
