What the hell is going on?
Nothing is, Lowtax is just gonna give the servers over to some admin. Allegations came out against him yet again and goons have had enough.
He was completely gone from the site anyway so nothing will change. He'll probably still be the recipient of the $10 membership fees.
I guess it does further cement Lowtax as the one webmaster from back in the day to eat concrete moreso than anyone else, which is still pretty funny.
As far as I know, most Goons have already moved to some other social media platform like Youtube or Twitter. Typical thing in the modern internet age.
In a way it actually kind of freaks me out that people still use SA.
Interesting news though.
Cliff Yablonski hates you
Is that site worth using in 2020?
No. They barely post anymore and unless you play EVE its pretty much Twitter you have to pay for.
Twitter nowadays seems like a combination of the standard blogging website and Facebook except instead of familiar people yelling at you it's strangers. I wouldn't compare it to a forum even if some of the humor is shared.
In regard to EVE online, I believe that many people have a perception of SA that is outdated. EVE online was popular on SA like, 6 years go. Even then, there were threads in GBS making fun of them. It's the same with people saying that SA was infiltrated by "SJWs", "leftists", "rightists", "edgy /Pol/tard kids". Each of which probably had their "day in the sun" (on SA AHAHHA). Now though it seems to just be mild shitposting on GBS. D&D is a shithole anyway.
In terms of usability in 2020? You'll definitely get your moneys worth on the boring stuff in the discussion and art forums. Everything else is mild and even stale at this point and probably not.
They still have one of the most powerful groups in EVE to the point people are still joining SA just to get in.
Aside from that, it would probably be weird joining a 20+ year old forum where everyone knows each-other and everyone has families and shit. Go watch some of their old flash tub stuff if thats your thing and be done with it.
Lowtax also really doesn't deserve your money.

I do kinda want an account just so I can read some old threads, but not only do you need to pay up $10s for it, you also need a $10 archive pass and a $10 premium account just to use the fucking search bar. That's not worth it in the slightest.

That would make two of us, but on the other hand most of the interesting stuff is either already archived by others (groverhaus, the zipline, the 9/11 thread) or deleted, and I get the impression virtually all of the images in older threads are long gone.
In case anyone is wondering, SA isn't going anywhere. The transfer of ownership was completed recently and Lowtax will get permabanned at some point, says the new owner. It's not worth joining up if you're not already a member unless you are an amateur internet historian and you have a few tens of dollars to spend.

I wouldn't say right wingers ever had their day in the sun on SA. Especially not /pol/ types. The SA forums are full of the kind of fags who have mega hateboners for landlords and rich techies.

I think they're talking about the SomethingSensitive split

IIRC he started beating his mail-order wife and she had to get a restraining order against him.
