I used to use idlechan at school back in the day. 4chan was caught by the content filter very early in its life, but idlechan was not. I don't remember it being particularly worse or better, just slower.

4chan used to have a vision that used to drive it forward. moot's flawed but nevertheless ambitious ideas for internet forums and the general community's confidence of the type communities that will beget in the future. What do we have now? Twitter and discord have supserseded the kind of humor and communities 4chan was once specialized in. moot discarded everything he used to stand for, hiro ignores the site's existence, the mods don't care. 4chan's once unique community engagements aren't unique anymore. The site's one novelty specialization today is to make both readers and posters upset.

the mods care plenty, it's just that they're also awful people who's idea of caring is shitting on the community and making it actively worse.
