Amusingly, like >>6 said, it was a huge story, particularly on Twitter and introduced a lot of normgroids to the lolcow thing. By breaking into the mainstream, he unknowingly opened a can of worms by causing a wave of carpet baggers who want to leech off of his infamy and then the spergouts regarding his pronouns and such.
I feel bad for the communities around lolcows like the KF, who now have to restrict registration and privatize other communication because a wave of norms are interested after the extensive coverage, which sucks for them because even though I don't hang out there too much the attitude of the place seems one of the last big sites that doesn't take the internet and net drama too seriously. I also feel old as hell after feeling nostalgic about a community dealing with a newfag wave because of media coverage. the more things change the more they stay the same I suppose.

It just struck me as a bit odd that the guy posting in the Chris Chan thread somehow missed out on the Barb Rape Saga, which strikes me as being up there with the Sonic Boom GameStop banning incident and the various incarnations of his Love Quest as being the most audacious things he's done of his own accord. That naturally being taken in tandem with the recentness and widespread nature of the incident itself, the aftermath that followed, and the ensuing arrest of Chris.

That's been my line of thinking. That or some type of reduced sentencing if he uses the autism excuse.
My understanding is that his tugboat will get taken away if and when he is sent to prison, which would be a rather intriguing mini-saga in of itself.

Regardless because he is completely gone mentally, in a lot of countries that did deinstitutionalisation crazy people are just kind of allowed to roam the streets despite what the state says for a myriad of reasons, but commonly it's just because the staff of the jail or the psychiatric hospital or whatever doesn't want to deal with a problem patient over years
