How freudian was Evangelion? (11)

Or alternatively, "ITT we point out things that are".

It seems obvious that Anno did make heavy use of Freudian psychological ideas in Evangelion, but at the same time I have a really hard time reconciling the really heavy sexual ideas in psychoanalytic with Eva's pretty light fare. Granted, we have a couple of obviously sexual scenes in eva. But is it really reasonable to jump to the assumption that every part of the series is a sexual metaphor?

Anyways, I'll just point out what I've noticed

>Gendo corresponds to the freudian idea of a tyrannical father
>Shinji's feelings for Rei II could be interpreted as love for his mother, which would feed into an oedipus complex
>the sequence where Shinji is trapped in a womb could be considered childlike reversion, same with instrumentality
>Asuka might have penis envy?

In a word, Kaji. She wants to have sex with older men because they resemble her father

But honestly, this is just a guess and I'm not terribly sure here

"Absolute Terror" is a Freudian term.

I personally view NGE as a fantasy story that happens to have science fictional trappings (giant robots, kaiju, etc.) and is covered in this sort of uneven mishmosh of Qabbalistic mysticism and Freudian psychoanalytical jargon. NGE's pseudoscience technobabble therefore has a distinct and recognizable quality that distinguishes it immediately from others.

Thus:

"We're engaging chevrons while Dr. Nonentity bombards the naquadah core with charged tachyons" is obviously from Stargate.

"We're reversing polarity of the neutron flow with a charged pulse through a deuteronic frombotzer" is obviously from Star Trek.

"Rei's AT field integrity is degrading due to the lack of a true soul in her Eva's core! We need to increase power to the Tree of Life to shore up the superego boundary before the Angel can recover" is obviously from NGE.

Wait, at what point was there some "inside a womb" moment? I don't remember that.

I'm thinking of episode 16 here, the big black sphere that absorbs Shinji. Sequence resembles a womb to me

Ain't that the truth. Well, can't we at least pretend to cobble together a misshappen pie and call it what happens?
