Ok, I get this whenever I try to copy something from my CD-Rom drive, It sounds like it's working ok, but after it reaches somewhere around 40% it just gives up on the file and shows this error message saying "Error Cannot Copy <filename> Invalid MS-DOS function". The computer is brand new and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same trouble with this? thanks!
What version of DOS/Windows are you running.... and what is the drive??
XP Home Edition CD drive D
The Cd might be corrupted. Does it show the message when trying to copy every cd or only a specific one? Just try to copy the same cd on other machine.
This thread is lame. How about a general tech support thread?
Best solution
Inj win2003 Right click any where in your drive or dirctory then from the popup
select
new-> ziped folder
then a new zipped folder is created
Drag and drop the the contents of CD up on the newly created icon after a short time whole the dragged contents are ziped to your disk then upzip it. Then you will get all contents without any errors
Enjoy....
i'm not sure how to do this but could someone report this to microsoft it happened to me too. it sucks and i have no idea what to do trying aip now but still I shouldn't have to

ok finally now this is for every one who came up here -
1.HIT GOOGLE TYPE ISOBURNER
2. GO TO ISOBUENER SITE DOWNLOAD IT .
3.INSTALL ISOBURNER
4.COPY THE FILE USING ISOBURNER TO YOUR HARDDISK
5.CHECK "IGNORE ALL"
5.ONCE COPIED U CAN CREATE YOUR OWN VCD DISK .
AND MIND IT dont blame your burner it is due to scratched disk!!
bullshit , nobody has come up with a real solution for this problem , I checked them , they doesn't work
@latheef :
Your sugegstion works like charm. I just tried it on a VCD that was giving me similar problem.
Thanks a lot and keep it up.
Lateef, your solution worked like charm.
Lateef, your solution worked for some of my files but not others...but thank you for helping save the ones that I was able to save this way.
I am also having this problem- Except it happens when I'm trying to copy a folder of 7 mp3's from my C:\ drive to a SecureDigital card (F:).
If anyone can identify the cause of this problem (as in, why it happens) I would greatly appreciate it. A workaround is sort of helpful, but there must definitely be a better solution than "compress the files then copy them". We are not idiots and we don't have to just "cope" with something, we can FIX it!
when i copy the gta 4 files it give me error that cannot copy it invalid ms dos function so what i do?

i just had d same problem w/ u guys..after 2 days of exploring i finally got it. its funny, because its too simple. lols, mine is drive D. what i did is i dragged d whole including the drive to my videos, my new folder. :D
I had the same problem. EASY FIX. I unmounted the virtual drive then remounted and could copy the stuff over fine. If its a real disk drive (which i doubt) try ejecting and and... um rejecting...injecting... what ever. lol

The Best Thing to Do is Reload Windows
I Reloaded Windows and it worked.. I didn't get any Error Messages like "Invalid MS-DOS Function"
