BEST ANIME EVER! (203)

BEST ANIME EVER!

For me, it's 2x2 Shinobuden.

I just finished watching it. The last episode made be cry, but because of sadness so much, but just because I knew there was no more. Seriously, how can Genius things like this only go for 12 episodes and things like Naruto get HUNDREDS of episodes.

54 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-02-03 21:09 ID:+Zv3NpRE

NGE impresses me a lot for the characterization, and the characters and their relationships got stuck in my head and stayed there long after I watched it, but it's not the best anime I ever saw.

Cowboy Bebop has better music, better animation, better voice acting in the English dub, and a real ending instead of one the scriptwriters phoned in. I don't like the characters as much but all in all I think it's a slightly better series than NGE.

NGE
Hayao Miyazaki's movies
Haibane Renmei
Azumanga Daioh
School Rumble :)

Oh, and I have just watched Rurouni Kenshin OAV. I still need to think about it, but I can understand why it's often considered best anime ever.
Guys who wrote GTO: Have you read the manga? I haven't seen anime, but I suppose it's not much more than anime-ization of manga (which is great).

Well I would definately say in my own opinion that Fist of the North Star (Hokuto No Ken in japan) is definately one of the best anime's period. Also I would have to say The original Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam Z, Gundam 0083, MS IGLOO, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Street Fighter II: The Animated movie are also some of the best animes I have seen.

lol noob those are good animes, I bet you are the type that thinks animes like Gundam SEED, Inuyasha, Full Metal Alchemist, and Wolf's Rain are the best animes ever, and if you think that you must be a 13 year old white guy that wishes he could commit suicide and be reborn as a japanese guy.

65 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-02-06 20:09 ID:Heaven

Seriously, Fist of the North Star and the original Gundam are eternal classics. As is Evangelion, although it hasn't had as much time to be a classic.

what

Seriously, these are facts any serious otaku would know. You've gotta know the classics of the field, man. Just try counting the number of references you see to those shows in other works.

68 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-02-07 06:31 ID:Heaven

>>67 Too much Gundam love; also, Neon Genesis Evangelion? Sure, it's something very different, but all-time-great? Not even.

69 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-02-07 12:15 ID:HB1JcNnK

>>68

I'm not talking subjective opinions here, I'm talking objective popularity and lasting appeal. It's ten years since Evangelion aired, and it's still as popular as ever. It's over thirty since Gundam, and people who weren't even born when it aired reference it all the time. Like them or not, they are indisputably classics of the field.

70 Name: V3 Rider : 2007-02-07 18:28 ID:xHeQLnJh

>>67

Well the Gundam franchise is one of my favorite anime franchises (except for its not so great installment Gundam SEED), but my favorite anime is the classic Hokuto no Ken and the Hokuto no Ken animated movie. But I don't think I should be called a troll for stating my own opinion about which animes are one the best.

>>68

Actually its around 12 years since Evangelion aired, but still the original Mobile Suit Gundam and NGE are classics, even some of the anime series of today parody or have references to both Gundam and NGE(like SGT. Frog or Excel Saga).

71 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-02-07 22:05 ID:Heaven

Anything good that once existed in the Gundam franchise has been undone by Gundam Seed and its sequels.

72 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-02-07 23:42 ID:FxC7GgKt

>>71

Agreed, Gundam SEED is like the Inuyasha of the Gundam franchise

73 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-02-08 01:03 ID:9hpQS413

Let's not turn this into a "I hate Gundam Seed thread" though I still think G Gundam is the worst out of all of them.

in terms of best, well there's the "best in my opinion" and best as in "most successfull/popular" the former being what most people say in this thread and the latter is what >>70 is pointing out, in a way.

Personally I don't really like NGE but let's look at some facts here, with NGE, well they're making a "remake" so to speak and the merchandize are still selling well and don't forget the range of NGE stuff they sell. Unlike gundam franchise they haven't made any spinoff series until recently (games and manga are not included), and gundam within 10 year wasn't as big as NGE in the same time frame, although this point is highly debatable.

74 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-02-08 08:34 ID:wtgG9K/0

NGE is the past, present and future!

75 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-02-08 13:54 ID:SJxoFznQ

I never enjoyed NGE so at least to me it will never be a great classic in the history of anime....

Personally I don't hold any particular series that I've watched as the 'best' or 'greatest' to me there are good and bad animes but nothing that stands out at the top.

76 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-02-08 16:07 ID:Heaven

"Great classic in the history of anime" are really not determined by personal opinion. You don't have to like them, but denying their influence is just silly.

77 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-02-08 17:39 ID:9BnzaSkf

I'd say the original Dragonball or Astroboy.

But then again, I haven't watched many

78 Name: kurodesu : 2007-02-08 17:41 ID:Ndbm9WTM

Agreed with #76

I think that NGE was great for the silly way of representing the actual world, and besides the music was really cool!
Frank Sinatra songs and all that it's just classic and sexy also.

79 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-02-09 01:25 ID:Heaven

>>79
It is thanks to MASTER ASIA.

83 Name: V3 Rider : 2007-02-09 07:34 ID:DOb9fsLn

>>79

I wouldn't call G Gundam the best Gundam, but it was unique and pretty good. But it was only really made to parody the 2D fighting game craze that was going on at the time.

>>82
Master Asia, definately one of the best Gundam characters though lol

>>81
Well the reason why I'm a Gundam fan (but not really a rabid fan), is because of the Mobile Suits, the storyline and plot is ok, but the Mobile Suits is what really attracted me, and no I'm not talking about all the "Big Bad" Gundam's and Mobile Armors like Big Zam or the Ez8, I mean the Mobile Suits like The Zaku II, GM Cannon (no not Gun Cannon, GM Cannon), The Jegan, the GM III, and so on. I'm still waiting for a Gundam installment that has what I truely want to see, a giant army of Balls kicking serious ass, in MS IGLOO you get close to that but still not what I wanted to see. Yes there are Mobile Suits called Balls if you didn't know, please make a joke about how weird what I typed looks like now.

nirvana had a lot of popularity and influence on the music that would come later in the 90s and on, but kurt cobains voice is shit.

point made by analogy.

99 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-03-23 00:34 ID:Hb7vCdO0

I'm kinda disappointed by this thread. When I saw it's title i was hoping it would be full of people recommending obscure nonsense to show what hardcore recluses they were. Unfortunately I've seen most of whats been recommended, and I haven't seen much. I say unfortunately because I was hoping for some good recommendations of stuff I'd never find out about by myself.

As I'm just getting into anime It would be nice to hear some lesser known things, because I've learnt that what is best known within a genre is rarely considered the best by serious fans of a genre. Like >>98 I think a quite good analogy can be made with music; a lot of well known stuff is great (provided you like the genre it's in) such as Pink Floyd. But if you seriously spend time with music you'll eventually find stuff you appreciate far more than what first started you listening in the first place. For example from liking Pink Floyd (I still do) I found out about Gentle giant and Gong, who I like much more, but they aren't as well known. I'm assuming the same is true of anime. I really liked Eva, but am concious that there will be anime out there in the same genre that most fans of the genre would consider to be much better.

Favourites are hard to choose but I'd say Key the metal idol, kino's travels, Kodomo no Omocha and Akagi.

Also I thought Kurt Cobain's voice suited Nirvana really well.

If that's what you want, maybe you should be reading a thread about that instead. I like my obscure shows as much as the next guy, but I know that they are a personal preference and can't really be called the "best anime ever" by the mere fact that they aren't actually very popular.

I think you're wanting http://4-ch.net/anime/kareha.pl/1149680272/.

102 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-03-23 17:37 ID:Hb7vCdO0

>>101 Thanks for the link, and sorry for the rather pointlessly long post.

However I disagree entirely with you that just because an anime is not popular doesn't mean it cannot be a contender for best anime ever. Mainly because there is no proper definition of what the 'best' anime is, so this is really just a list of favourites, and something doesn't need to be well known to be your personal favourite. All I was saying is that I'm suprised that the majority of favourites mentioned are pretty well known, when usually a list of favourites is filled with unexpected and unusual things.

103 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-03-23 20:01 ID:Heaven

>>102

It's pretty clear that the "best" of anything will have to be picked with a fair amount of objectivity. Equating "best" with "favourite" makes the whole term pretty redundant.

104 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-03-24 17:54 ID:Hb7vCdO0

>>104
With things like anime it is impossible to be objective and so I don't think it is unreasonable to equate best with favourite concerning when it comes to lists like these. Using the term best when describing an anime is inappropriate, and seeing as the OP said that 'Best Anime Ever!! for me it is 2x2 Shinobuden' implied this was more a list of favourites than an objective and impersonal best of list.

I personally love such anime where you can watch one episode witout having to watch the others and still have a complete (little) story. Ie, no (big) cliffhanger. Its especially nice if the eps are linked together by some main characters or overarching storyline.

That's why I'm totally in love with the Jigoku Shoujo series, which also has some very nice music to it, and overal very well animated. Of course I then also enjoyed Paranoia complex (shounen batto.) Many episode of Ghost in the shell S.A.C have similar standalone stories. Still, Jigoku Shoujo beats all.

Does anyone know some series that fit within this 'genre' (in fact, is it a genre and is there a name for it?)

i guess so.... but i just refuse to call myself a nerd. i am very social 'n shit... i dun like nerds too much either. but I have been into anime since i was about 5 (speed racer, tranzor Z, voltron and shit) i'm in my 30's now so it's been a hella long time.

but see the thing is this. since we have adopted the name Otaku, i actually appreciate t he fact that cooler peoples can be Otaku's too. cuz i dun consider myself a big nerd, i go out and shit with cute ass people. tho i know i put that long as definition there, i think what people think Otaku was, should change.

i'm indecisive about the whole damned thing. it does piss me off when people who have only watched 1 anime call themselves an Otaku, but on the other hand I dun like ugly ass people calling themselves an otaku just to belong to something and wear it as a badge of honor either.

actually I guess for once ya'll could help me out on this.
