I can't remember when i last got to play a game that :
1:was fun and entertaining all the time.
2:when i never got tired.
3:the history was top class.
4:i wanted to replay it after i finished it.
5:i could play it for moths witout finishing it.
To sum it up my lates games i have tested is:
Half life(played 1-2days , never replayed it)
WoW(qitted fast)
gw(i only play once in the week)
Silent hunter 3(got boring fast)
hearts of iron 2(only one i have left)
So when in the good games coming?
Battleto... oh wait, wrong chan.
I'd say Beatmania IIDX, or DDR and DDR-derivatives, but at some point either I get tired, or my body decides to overthrow my mind Karl Marx style, or some other third reason.
Nethack is good, but only if you can stand ASCII in exchange for rockin' gameplay.
Now, when you say 'are there any good games coming', I can't exactly answer that in a positive manner. I just can't think of anything with near-infinite replay value coming out. The best we can hope for is to jump from game to game like parasites.
Endless replay sure whittles things down a lot.
Of these, only the first contains elements of history, and only the second has a history.
Go is fun to
#5 is a stupid criterion. Good games tend to be short and sweet.
I guess I'll nominate Angband.
Yoshi's Island.
Alpha Centauri deserves a mention, since it has a lot more personality/intelligence than the standard civ games.
Alpha Centauri was definitely a good game. I found it sterile though, probably because the tech tree was utterly fake. The terrain was dull too.
They only games I've ever really wanted to replay after finishing are puzzle games like Tetris and shoot em ups like Metal Slug. Especially the level 9 B-mode on Gameboy Tetris. Going through a whole big story again feels like too much work, and I usually make save games at branch points to see all the endings.
I am trying to remember a very old game that I used to play a lot. It was a 1st person adventure, where you had to piece together clues and collect things. The main character (the person you play) is a smartass. The world you play in is like some sort of urban disaster where everyone watches TV, and you get in trouble if you don't.
I don't really remember much else about it, except that I enjoyed it. lots. Any ideas on the title of the game?
Battletoads
super mario world, man that was a great game.
Battlefield 2
The game i played the most : COunter Strike
The best RPG games i've played : Chrono Trigger
Best Action RPG : Megaman Legends
Best Game ever:Final Fantasy VII(movie ruled)
Cave Story
Also, if the AC threads start attracting a bunch of retarded fans like the Densha Otoko threads have, I may leave. (Note: only AC fans are retarded, not Densha ones)
I tried playing Cave Story, but I got bored right away. Does it get any better? The beginning just draaaaaaags on.
I thought it started getting interesting after you beat the oversized toaster (or whatever that is) the first time.
The puzzle to get past the apparently closed area in Egg Corridor is a bit annoying (and so is Jellyfish Juice, I guess), but once you're past that it's fun.
I guess I'll have to be clearer: I ran around and shot at some things, and then I ended up in some sort of village where I read a lot of text and nothing happened until I drowned in a little lake. It wasn't very exciting, and I didn't really feel like reloading.
It's dull until the first boss (which looks like an oversized toaster).
It took me about half an hour to finish the village, IIRC.
I was playing killer7 about seven hours ago, so that's one.
The original Sonic trilogy I played through so many times it's ridiculous, and I still get them out today to have a go...
...wait a minute. I was playing KILLER7...SEVEN hours ago.
O_O
ICO
I hear >>25 in Yorda's cute accented voice, and can even see her pointing at something.
OH MAN, I CAN TOTALLY SEE THAT, MAN
LET'S GET ALL TOUCHY-FEELY AND SHIT
oompha, oompha. Hoooooy!
Fable
I would say Earthbound since it's so fun and easy I have to force myself to stop playing it--except I'll probably never want to replay it after it's finished
Angband and Nethack are okay, except for when you really pissed off dying all the time and stop playing
The village was the easiest part... eh, back to my visual novels I guess.
Replay value is a bad criteria for evaluating game quality. Nethack has perfect replay value, and I've been playing it for years. It's a great game, but so is Ico, which I played once and finished very quickly. I don't want to replay Ico because it would only tarnish the memories of playing it the first time.
OBJECTION! No one has mentioned Phoenix Wright!
Well the replay value isn't high but it's still one of the best games I've played in a long time!
Baldur's Gate. I dunno. SMB:M? I loved Killer7.
I can't believe Katamari Damacy isn't mentioned...
Morrowind.
I popped in Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram the other day.
:\
Dragon Force
*Shin Megami Tensei:Nocturne
*Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly
*Castlevania: Lament of Innocence - To be fair, there might be Castlevania Geekdom involved. This game suffers significantly from Bad Camera Syndrome.
Long Time ago, it's called SHINING FORCE 3 and SHINING the HOLY ARK
damn you SEGA!!!!
Star Control 2
It doesn't really work for anybody who's not a 'hardcore gamer,' but many fighting games (CvS2, MvC2, SF3:TS, KOF2KX, etc.) and shooting games (Dodonpachi, Ikaruga, Psyvariar, etc.) would fit this bill.
However, that's only if you're 'hardcore,' because fans of these genres don't consider the game to be over when you've seen the credits roll by. Combo extension and competitive skill, or score-improving, are ongoing goals that span multiple sessions; 'beating the game' is barely even a milestone. I guess it's not really a 'casual gamer' aesthetic, but if you want a game that will occupy you for months and months, that's what you're looking at.
MvC2 is probably still the most competitive 2D fighter in the US; it's been out for 6 years, maybe? People still play Super Turbo in arcades near me. That's replay value for you.
>However, that's only if you're 'hardcore,' because fans of these genres don't consider the game to be over when you've seen the credits roll by.
I'm not entirely sure I agree there. I'll concede that fighting games aren't nearly as popular as when some of these games came out. When people play a fighting game, however, at the very least, they want to see the ending for all their favorite characters. Also, fighting games have a social aspect. People like to play against other players, which doesn't get you to the end credits any sooner. I'm not sure, however, that this appreciation requires being a hardcore fan of the genre.
Fable.
Say what you will about it, but I've given up 75+ hours of my life to the thing. It's just fun. Too short, though, I need to get the 'Lost Chapters' version.
It has MUCH more replayability than people give it credit for. I do things a little differently each time I play.
You make a good point. Also, in order for replay value to be worth anything, it has to be enjoyable enough to consider going through it a second time.
Considering some of the prices these games cost, however, I suspect the focus on replay value is so that you feel as though you got your money's worth. There is a certain amount of time I want to spend on the game. If it's too quick, I feel like I should have just rented it, or borrowed it from a friend.
Ragnarok Online, playin it for years and still enjoying it :D
>>46
I deleted that from my computer recently, freeing up 2 gigabytes of space. Hadn't played it in ages.
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.
Cave Story.
Yes, I'm a cheap bastard.
Shadow of the Colossus baby!
Quite possibly the best game for PS2 yet~
I've been playing the 1985 NES Gradius XD
I can get to the end of stage 3 (easter island heads, or heads of moai), and then I die T_T
This is quite possibly one of the hardest shooters there are. I actually agree with >>42 about the ideal of hardcore gaming a bit. I have a friend that's been playing fighters for quite some time, and I haven't stopped shooters since I started when I was 4.
Other games that require hardcore players would be the armored core games for playstation, and most of the flight simulators (combat and non-combat). These games usually ask for a bit of time spent into reading on how to either use your mech/plane.
Armored core discourages a lot of people because they're too impatient, and don't want to bother customizing( some huge number of parts to cycle through usually) their mech to something they can work with best.
Flight sims are definitely hardcore games since you actually need to take the time to go through the lessons, or the time to play through 1 map. I haven't played these in a long time simply because I don't have a huge gap of time to fly around trading glares with a Spitfire or clipping the wings of a Hurricane.
FFIV
英語わかんねぇwww
FFVII, FF Tactics, And Xenogears(not the Xenosagas) are all games that I never mind replaying.
Resident Evil 4, played it through three times but third time it got a little boring because I had all the uber weapons with unlimited ammo^^
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
GTA San Andeas (Sp?) was good too. I remember I had paid vacation from work when they were coming out. A week by myself (well I saw some freinds too). Good times.
Manhunt had some flaws but was good overall, same for Hitman: Contracts. Contracts was a step down from the last in it's series in game controls though a step up in inovative environment interaction.
Oh yeah and I started X-Com for the first time ever and got hooked. Retro for ya.
Dragon Quest VIII is one of the few rpgs I played that nearly made me call in a 'sick day.' I played threw 40 hours without relaizing it.
I didn't mean I was done. It took me 40 hours to reliaze I waste 40 hours.
oh regardless it took me like a week or so to beat the game, since it was a rental copy, i was only like 7-10 years old too
Psychonauts
My best game
Glandia 1
Wild arms 2
Persona 2
VALKYRIE PROFILE
FF 10
final fantasy 10... so i guess you like the emo lead characters.. and ditzy females cough tidus and yuna

The coughing thing is lame when done in real life, even lamer when done in text, and absolutely pathetic when you just put in "cough tidus and yuna" at the end of a sentence. Please never do it again.
ok no problem, tell me why do you like final fantasy 10 lol
Liking Valkyrie Profile makes up for a lot of stuff.
BLOCK DUDE last period algebra.
Morrowind was the only game I wanted to play again after I finished it. Now I'm waiting for Oblivion.
Both Guitar Hero and Dragon Quest VIII. Both I can play for hours straight without even noticing the outside world.
i watched someone beat that game in 15 minutes i got the video from gamershell.com... he used tons of potions to buff himself up and rushed like heck accross the land, to fight some god and win, and see the ending fmv... pretty cool... judging how it took me like 20 minutes to leave balmora lolol
DDR and ITG. Two years and I'm still not bored X-D
Smash Bros Melee. My friends and I ritualistically 2v2 each other and no matter how long we play it, it never gets boring.
Magic the Gathering. With The same friends as SSBM. It just never gets old. I guess both Magic and SSBM stay fun mostly because of the in-game commentary my friends produce, but the games themselves are excellent alone as well.
Parappa the Rapper 2. I played through 3 times and it was a ton of fun each playthrough.
Tony Hawk: Pro Skater on the N64, I can't remember how much I plaid that game
the tomb raider series--all but the last one, angel of darkness. that one sucked ass. but i would always stop for a few months just because im stuck in the game, but then would always come back for more. and sims 2.
I've played counter-strike for a couple of years and it still is fun.
>>78
I agree, I loved to plaid that game too, and I played it a lot too (just giving you grief).
Tales of Destiny II and Tales of Symphonia. These games had awesomw stories and I played through both many multiple times.
My quick and dirty list(not for the faint of heart):
Doom II
Super Street Fighter 2
King of Fighters '95
Final Fantasy VI
Contra
Gradius
Metal Gear Solid 3
And that's all that I can think about...Everything else has just been a fad for me. Most of these games are mindless shooters and whatnot..with FFVI being the only RPG. But man...WHAT AN RPG...epic storyline lots of characters lots of sidequests it was pure GAME. No Final Fantasy game since has been good. With the exception of MGS3...all of the games have been a reflection of the times. When I was a young lad, in the 80s thru early 90s, games were shooters or fighters. Nothing far out, nothing you had to sell your soul for. You just sat down and gamed. Now...it's all cutscenes and blah blah blah....
MGS3 is my only exception because it has so many things you can do in it.
I think he last really good game I played was either WWE Smackdown Versus Raw 2006 or GTA Liberty City Stories.
FINAL FANTASY X was really good.
CG, voice, music were great, but before everything, the story was fantastic!
I like that kind of tradedy.
I cried and cried so much and it was the first time that I cried playing a TV game.
but... the game that was really good ever to me was FINAL FANTASY XI.
It took a lot of time to level my character up, but like I said about FFX,
the story and music were really good.
FFXI is MMORPG, so we encounter, fight and go to adventure with countless people.
Such a fun game, it was.
Ridge Racer 4. Or R4. Played that game so much. I honestly think I can complete a lap on any course...blinfolded. Guess I'll find out, then. Any excuse to play it again....
I think best game is Xenosaga series.
I'm playing The Minish Cap right now on the GBA, and while it is just a ripoff of A Link to the Past, that game was so good that even the ripoffs are awesome.
It's eating my life. I hope I finish it soon so I can stop playing.
I used to think Counterstrike was pretty good, but it's just fucking repetitive now. Same thing for most FPS's. There's only so many times you can shoot someone in the head and still enjoy it.
I like the Metal Gear Solid series a lot -- requires skill, is always challenging, some campy humor to provide comedic relief, lots of replay value... it's great stuff.
I like the Elder scrolls Series!
Kingdom Hearts. Even though I didn't want to replay it after beating it, I still longed for KH2. Will buy it when it starts hitting the bargain bins (I hate paying full price for games).
>>84
wow... FFX made me cry too..
who would want to see the lead character in horrible costume??
damn.. cosplayers..
MGS series is awesome
Raptor: Call of the Shadows
played it in the middle of the 90's...
not to sound like a dick but fir me it was Katamari Damacy, and still play it after all that time. I find it as a good pick me up after a bad day at work.
Resident evil 4 was really good, and the mercenaries minigame kept me going for quite a while after i beat the main game too
Ever17... editing was crap but the game is awesome, I'm playing it through for the third time now
Super Mario RPG - The best 3D rpg ever in history.
