On second thought, everyone will just call it Nintendo like they did with the others.

No they won't. I've never heard anyone refer to a Nintendo system as just "Nintendo" since the SNES. And this one is named after piss.

LOL Wiiaboos.

(I was waiting for the Revolution and will probably still get it, but I may just chip off any nameplates. "Hey, I just got a new Wii, you guys wanna give it a try?" >_<

I like it. It's a better name than Revolution, at least. Less arrogant and more fun (whee!).

11 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2006-04-27 20:42 ID:Heaven

i predict the first third-party accessories will be "revolution" stickers to cover up the wii.

I wonder how much they paid for someone to come up with that name.

I'M OLD GREGG

The question I want to ask is why does the Hard-Core gaming population hate the name Wii?

Personally, I think I know the answer. When you watch Nintendo's flash video you'll realize that Wii is not just cute, it's simply adorable; adorable in a way that only women and gay men really understand. The fact is that this is simply unacceptable to much of the gaming population because they wanted something edgier and cooler like "Nintendo Revolution Extreme 1080".

Wii. <3

19 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2006-05-05 20:07 ID:zLu7oNfO

I think it's a great name precisely because "hardcore gamers" hate it so much. Let's face it: the video game industry is in a slump. All they're producing are more and more tired rehashes of the same old shooters and shit that were barely any good the first time, for you to play with increasingly better graphics (and worse gameplay) as you rot for hours and hours all alone in your parents' basement. At least, that's what it looks like from a distance. Nintendo's concept seems to be about changing that, and the quirky name is a great way to get that message out.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The nunchuck thumbstick attachment has at least an accelerometer to detect motion. Could it also have the same position/rotation tracking as the main controller?

http://revolution.ign.com/articles/703/703727p2.html

>IGN Wii: Do you use the trigger buttons on the nunchuck unit?
>John Schappert: You know, the buttons are all still being mapped out. It does use the trigger buttons right now. I don't know how much we'll have locked in for you at E3 because we are still working on the final button layout, but it does use the trigger buttons, and it does use the accelerometer in the nunchuck unit as well for juking.
>So, you take the controller, jerk it up to snap. Quarterback now has the ball. Your passing icons are now up. Take the wand controller and you'll see that the four directions on its D-Pad represent four of your receivers; the A button is your fifth receiver. Point to one of those receivers that you want to receive the ball and with your hand gesture a throwing motion to pass. Now, the harder you throw, the more that's going to be a bullet pass. The softer and the more you lob a throw, the more that it's going to be a lob. When you receive the ball, you run with the analog stick on the nunchuck and if you want to juke, you use the nunchuck to gesture it. And if you want to stiff-arm, you use the wand.

but you can do "adorable" without naming it after a bodily function.

Apparently, Nintendo has announced that the Wii will launch for less than 25000 yen in Japan. This is pretty much the same price as their earlier consoles.

My god lurk more, he wanted him in Melee but suggested it too late to get him in, he's an electronic interactive entertainment enthusiast himself you know, supposedly quite the fan of either sageru and/or sakurai.
He probably spends all his time playing Kirby DX when Konami isn't bugging him for the next installment of the adventures of solid hayter. Hell, that's what I do in my free time, and I don't have some videogame company hounding me to continue some not fun at all series taking up all of my platforming action, frankly I feel sorry for poor Hideo, all he really wants is for snatcher to sell, not this snake shit.

the Wii does look interesting if only for the new Zelda for the moment.
i went to the nintendo site and read up on the wii and all i can
say is don't sel all yur game cube controllers and cards cause they
it has four cube controller ports and two mem card slots.
the wii will also play all game cube games as well as being able to download
older nintendo games.

The mystery flap has been confirmed to be a cover for an SD card memory slot. http://wiispin.com/2006/06/24/wii-flap-revealed/

> Game Informer: What is the little door on the front of the unit?
> Reggie Fils-Aime: That is where an SD card goes. That’s storable media. And on
top, are the attachments for the GameCube controllers.
> GI: So will SD cards be the primary storage medium?
> RFA: It will be one of the memory mediums, and it’s the only one
that we’ve announced.

However, if the slot suports SDIO it might still be linked to secret devices.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital_card#SDIO

>SD slots can actually be used for more than flash memory cards. Devices that support SDIO (typically PDAs like the Palm Treo, but occasionally laptops or cell phones) can use small devices designed for the SD form factor, like GPS receivers, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth adapters, modems, Ethernet adapters, barcode readers, IrDA adapters, FM radio tuners, TV tuners, RFID readers, or digital cameras.

Check out this totally hard-ass versions of mario and luigi (and other nintendo characters):

http://asame2.web.infoseek.co.jp/mariof1.html

it will certainly toughen up Wii's image if they went with this version...

They should have stayed with the name revolution or at least choose another name. But they said that Wii is the universal language. Yeah it may be universal but what about the meaning behind it? Wii mean you want to go pee. Wii means "yes" in french. Wii means "Weee!" in little kids language when they're having fun. May I say more? But as long as they have good games then that's fine by me. I'm keeping my eye out on Smash Bro. Brawl, Sonic Wildfire, and Twilight Princess.
