Myself and the moderators can see all the IP addresses of users who post, but we don't use the ID, so to speak since the scripts write your IP address in an encrypted format somewhere else. Threads that are moved or put into the archives no longer retain this information since it's kept separate of the actually thread. ID's are more useful for the public since working out sock-puppets is much more obvious. This is a good example showing how people faking it can be caught out, but there are exceptions (transparent/open proxies, etc).

Not just sage hides the ID, anything put into the Link/Email field will cause it to ID:Heaven.
