In the begining of this thread, there were a bunch of people making generalized statements about the way people pronounce things in America. and this kind of just irked me. There is a HUGE range of dialects across America so it is impossible to say "American English" because there really is no such thing. I'm going to pick on 57 58 and 61 for a bit. Now, I moved to America when I was 4, from Hilversum, so learning English wasn't really much of a problem for me. You can't just hear one thing and say "damnit, why do the Americans pronounce it so!?" _------__-- .. I've completly lost my train of thought. What I'm trying to say is, just, don't generalize things so much.

"American English" is probably more or less California/West Coast English, since that's what most people are familiar with. Midwest English seems to me to be the most similar to that.

I have cookies. Are there any really popular brands of cookie in Japan? A lot of supermarkets here have their own brands, but the nation-wide one is called Chips Ahoy (which is a pun on the phrase Ship Ahoy, meaning "I see a ship". It's a nautical term). There are other brands like Keebler, which is represented by a bunch of weird elves who live in a tree. They make better cookies than Chips Ahoy though.

I'm depressed. Everybody at my job just hates the living daylights out of me. I'm not a very interesting person and they all find this to be annoying. When I walk into the office I get a resounding vibe from the entire personnel to just quit, or die. It's incredibly awkward, but hey, I need the money, so what can I do? Last week I was so down in the dumps that I huffed paint in the car before work just to give me a quick high. When I walked into the office Sheila, the secretary, asked me what all that silver stuff was around my mouth and I said it was milk but then thought milk? wtf? so I said NO its shaving cream and then scuttled into the bathroom to wipe it off. When I looked at myself in the mirror jesus christ did i look fucked up, like i was a fucking halfdead demon going bald and falling apart. under the fluorescent lights my teeth were almost pure yellow. sometimes i feel like making a nail out of the heaviest metal and setting it in the freezer overnight, then taking it out and standing it up by hammering it through a thin but sturdy board and just ramming my forehead right into it, right into the heaviest cold metal to fucking CHARGE MY BRAIN UP into ultimate concentration.
