Hey OP! Props for advocating a make-up free society! Unfortunately, the reality is that the professional world demands a "polished" look from their employees...hence the daily torture ritual of slapping crap on your face. I can put up with it because my crap-slapping routine consists of the bare minimum (tinted moisturizer, this hybridy lip balm/lipstick thing, and a little bit of blush). If I absolutely need it, then I'll use a little eyeliner, mascara, and maybe one swipe of eyeshadow. Anyway, back to the gunky lipgloss and creamy (a.k.a. mud-like) lipstick problem... If you want to try an alternative to Chapstick, I'd suggest either Clinique Almost Lipstick or any of Tarte's LipSurgence lip stains (try Original or the Lusters...Mattes tend to feel a little muddy). They feel like Chapsticks with the added benefit of a little color. You can apply as lightly or heavily as you wish but you will definitely not have that saliva-like or mud-like feeling.
