I dunno if >>47 can but i can. Stricter gun laws do not affect criminals because, by definition of the word "criminals", they don't follow the laws. Law abiding citizens, on the other hand, follow the law, by definition. This disparity means that stricter gun laws put law abiding citizens at a disadvantage as it disarms the law abiding populace and makes it easy to commit crimes. example: In New York city, even with a concealed weapons permit, your are SEVERELY restricted to the kind of gun you can carry. Furthermore, the gun carried must be in a snapped holster which must be concealed and the ammo must be in a sepparate carrying CONTAINER that must also be closed and kept away from the holster. If you have a gun in your glove box of your car, the ammo must be in the trunk. Failure to comply is a felony.

Example: John Q Public is driving along in his honda civic by Central Park. He has his unloaded baretta in his glove box and the bullets in the trunk. 2 Latin Kings run toward his car while he is at a red light to try to rob him. They have a baseball bat and a machete. He see's them in his rearview mirror from 50 yards away but, sadly, cannot get to his trunk in time to load his gun (nor would he be LEGALY able to justify doing so in NYC due to the gun laws) and can't drive away. He dials 911 and waits to be robbed while the police take 20 minute to arrive (if he is lucky) and accepts that his property is forfeit and that anything these to thugs do to him in the interim will likely go unpunished. The thugs know this too.
