I would say that Tom likes being thought of as the successful movie actor/thespian/oxbridge grad/kind of a looker that he is today. And Tom doesn't want to be seen as the slightly skinny drama student that he was, then. So he probably will lean away from girls that he actually knew at school, like Gemma and Andrea Riseborough, who he starred with in Ivanov. Plus, Tom's super competitive. I remember an article where he seemed kind of resentful that Eddie Redmayne's career popped before he did, and that Gemma was being hailed as a savior of the West End when she starred As You Like It, right out of school, whereas he had trouble landing jobs. We shall see.
