A girlfriend tried to get me to watch it with her. I was not amused. I got through the intro, and then I just closed the movie. I found it distasteful. I am also no longer with that girl.
I only got about ten minutes in before closing it. It seemed that I was going to generally agree with them--unless it takes a drastic turn in topic somewhere after the ten minute mark--but the whole thing was done with the same sort of tone as batshit moon landing conspiracists. Kind of undermines the message. That and I'd already known all about the material they'd covered so far and it was starting to smell of bullshit, particularly the astrology stuff (which I'm fairly familiar with from researching batshit egyptology conspiracies).
The worst thing about this movie is how it makes you lose respect for your idiot friends who kept bugging you until you watched it.
>>4 makes me feel superior to him because none of my friends kept bugging me until I watched it. Which I didn't do, because blatantly manipulative demagogic pseudo-documentaries make me scornful.
>>5 doesn't know that he has nothing to feel superior about, since all of my friends are actually imaginary.
INSTANT REVIEW : Closer
A movie about 4 people who know how to cheat on each other.
Natalie Portman still sucks at acting.
**INSTANT REVIEW***: Rabid
Scorpion Tail Zombie Armpit.
test
Instant Review: Pineapple Express
Where are the pineapples? the trains? why are there druggies fighting like wannabe asians?
INSTANT REVIEW: Rebel Without A Cause
Kid becomes a delinquent because his dad wears an apron. I could've sworn there were motorcycles in this one.
INSTANT REVIEW: My Neighbor Toroto
A few kids make some AWESOME friends and make me wish my childhood freinds weren't such jerks.
INSTANT REVIEW: Hellboy 2
Two cool bladed fighting scenes, film overall okay.
INSTANT REVIEW : The Big Lebowski
Anything bad you say is just, like, your opinion, man.
INSTANT REVIEW: Shooter
Involves a lot of shooting.
INSTANT REVIEW: Shoot'em up

since we have a drama thread, why not a movie one?
I will start.
Gozu
Yojimbo
Sanjuro
Ichi the Killer
Fudoh: The Next Generation
Vengeance is Mine
The Lone Wolf and Cub movies
The Hanzo the Razor movies

I watched Vengeance is Mine a couple of days ago. The main character was not the kind of character I'd expected him to be, and was much more interesting for it. Great film, with a different kind of feel to it than any other film about a serial killer I've seen.
survive style 5+
Chocolate
A Tale of Two Sisters (once you figure out what happened after watching it 12 times...)
Versus
Oldboy
Also, there was a korean movie I once watched, it was called 9 iron or 12 iron or something simliar. I couldn't find anything about it so I'm probably getting the name wrong. ( '・ω・)
>>67
...3-Iron?
it features lots of pretty photography. alot lots of engrish. it made me cry in a manly way.
>>68
Yes, that's it :3
I feel an urge to watch this sort of film.
Anyone know of any good ones?
no suicide, but The Machinist is a good film to start
Dancer in the Dark is completely depressing, even though it's a musical starring Bjork. I also recommend Sweeny Todd, which is another musical that's awesome.
I agree with Sweeney Todd
i wouldnt refer to them as suicide flicks, but the vengeance trilogy might be just what you are after... oldboy has a "happy ending" in the most twisted horrible way possible :p
Sophie's Choice. Doesn't get much more depressing than that.
If you don't mind subtitles- Jisatsu Circle (suicide circle)
Okay, guys, I need some movies that are a bit depressing, portraying humanity in a bleak manner, or about characters spiraling down to hell, tragedies, unescapable fates, that kind of stuff. I just want them not to be commiserating and teary.
The kind of movie that when the lights turn back on, all you can think of is "Hell, yeah. Life just sucks."
What could I give for pointers... let's see, I'd randomly put The Machinist, 25th Hour, Twelve Monkeys, Fight Club, Butterfly Effect - each one for their own reason.
Films dealing with paranoïa are okay too.
Oldboy
Another Great movie i saw, foreign (french) but damn!!!

Anyone Watch this? It used to be one of my favorites shows when it was shown on Fox back when I was a kid.
Oddly enough, I just remembered it yesterday. (Well, it wasn't that odd.)
aw, fuck all three of you. the themesong is once again lodged in my brain
lol
...A long time ago, I used to wake up early every sunday morning to watch my favorite show. Then, one fine sunday, half asleep I turn on the TV to find that it's been replaced by Around the Twist. I waited, patiently, finishing Around the Twist and assuming that my show would come on next...
...I didn't.
I FUCKING HATE AROUND THE TWIST. DIE BASTARDS!
>>6
Ooops, that's a typo. I meant: ...'IT' didnt.
But still, I DON'T LIEK AROUND THE TWIST!
I just saw the wunderpants episode today after many years. Every episode is weird but they happen to make it so great. Makers of Round the twist, I owe it to you to buy the DVDs.
omg!
Ugh, why was this bumped.
I made this topic. Now the song is stuck in my head again.
And you reminded me that I wanted to find torrents for it...
As an Australian that grew up in the 90's, Paul Jennings was THE staple of children's literature. Around the Twist is my childhood. ;_; I miss it so much.
>>6
I know this feeling. Still, I've seen every episode thanks to them using it for after-school filler for so long. I enjoyed reading Jennings, but this show just had a nasty vibe that still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Particularly later in the run when they'd completely run out of material, when they had to make up new stuff (after using up all the happy stories and then moving onto all the nasty and depressing/melancholy ones, so the late-show original material tended to be nasty/depressing and sub-par).
That they kept recasting main characters so often wierded me out as a kid, too. I was always bad with names so I assumed Pete had been killed somehow and replaced by a never-mentioned brother.

Hana Kimi japanese version ^_^ :) XD :O weeyayhahahoo
>>16 Thanks, you were spot on, this matches the guy's description exactly. Good show too!
>>35 honestly what was good about that show? (not trying to be rude here)
i really couldnt stand tanaka,
Orange Days is a must see.
One thats showing at the moment is Maou.
GOKUSEN and I have a shitty memory...
>>36 Yeah to be honest I have no idea. I might have sympathised with Hanagata or something. I only remember it leaving a huge impression on me but with no clear idea of why it was so good.
>>37
Gokusen was OK after the first season, but number two was EXACTLY the same, and I doubt season 3 to be any better.
The second season actually got so formulaic that I couldn't remember which episode I was on, and skipping through some didn't help as they all were about the exact same things.
>>39
Season 3 is very much the same. Every episode is some kid getting in some shit, and then her running to some random alley and/or warehouse and then the same soundtrack playing for the same things in every single episode.
I think that's what passes for fan service for this series.

Hello, it's the author again. I have another line.

The line is about a jungle. Does he remind you of Link from the Zelda CD-i games?

Another line from a video game. Maybe I should create a similar thread on the "Games" section.
The line is the last thing that is said.
It's the author yet again. Thank heavens that this time, it's not from a video game.
