>>318 It didn't get my money this weekend but did get my BIL's. I asked him how it was. 'Okay' was the answer but he says that about a lot of films. He did say that the theatre was nearly empty because everyone was in B&tB. I'm sure it will make its money back eventually. I still can't believe it needs to make $500m!

>>319 In addition to being UK-centric (expected with a UK magazine), it seems like these awards were more likely to be given out to those who were actually in attendance. Looking at the categories, many of which were sponsored, I also suspect this may have been a money making venture for Empire. Not that the awards were paid for, i don't think that was the case.

>>322 Everyone likes to win a prize, I guess. That plus the fact that Empire is the big film magazine over here. It has been around for a long time (1989!) and it has seen off a lot of competitors over the years. It is not a bad business model to get everyone along by bribing them with a prize!!

TH already has a lot of plastic awards on the shelf in the downstairs loo (Elle Man of the Year, MTV for whatever it was). Let us also not forget that his brown nosing about Jameson (the former Empire Awards sponsor) has condemned him to a lifetime of getting a bottle of average scotch wherever he stays instead of vintage champagne!!

>>320, >>322 Even if it's a frivolous award, at least now he knows at least one UK publication isn't totally against him. (Though their review of SI wasn't terribly positive, it didn't trash his performance the way the Guardian's did.)

>>325 Those were interesting tweets (in that the subtext of both rather parallels his life for most of last year - fake/real, having your life blown up, recovering)....
