Everyone is always deriding the US and focusing on its problems, all while ignoring the good things!
Compared to much of the world it's a pretty decent place!
Let me list off some good things about the US, just off the top of my head:
-Labor Unions
-Insurance
-Regulations on Corporations (I know they aren't perfect, but things could be SOOOOO much worse, it's not even funny)
-Right to vote
-Right to own firearms
-Right to protest
-Right to criticize the government/have aberrant opinions
-Right to own land
-There's plentiful food, water, and luxuries!
If you can think of anything else, feel free to add. Opinions/debate is (obviously) welcome, but this isn't an America vs. The World thread, so don't turn it into one.
The US is the most imperialistic, corrupt shit hole on the planet. I'm glad it's slowly becoming weaker and weaker in the world. The Chinese just finished a stealth jet fighter bomber...another 50 years your nation will be FINISHED
Everything you mentioned originated in Europe, anyway.
Well, I'm an American citizen and I like it here.
Every nation rises and falls, Britain, Rome, etc, so whether we are a super power or not is of no real consequence to me. Personally, I wish we'd never gotten involved in world affairs at all.
Anyway man, I'm sorry you have such negative feelings about America. I know the government has done some pretty bad things, but still... that you keep that with you, that that means so much, can't be good for you.
I wanted to have a thread commemorating the myriad achievements of American society, that was all.
Best wishes to you, man.
This guy.

The USA is surprisingly safe. Very basic stuff:
We have high murder rate to be sure, but that's just a number. The people being murdered are most often gangsters killing one another in parts of the city the majority of us don't live in. Purely innocent people make up a slim minority of murder victims.
We don't have terrorism. No FARC, no IRA, and no ETA setting off bombs on a regular schedule. There are a few spectacular events, but not pervasive and ongoing movements that last decades. Terrorism here is not a daily threat. Our weather on the hand...
There are no kidnappings for profit. If you have the slightest wealth in Mexico or South America, armed gangs come for your children in the night, demand ransom for them, and the authorities are powerless to do anything about it. That doesn't happen here because the full force of the federal government comes down on those that attempt it. You can have $100M in the bank here and your kids can walk to school each day (they won't because this is America; we drive everywhere).
We never pay bribes for anything in our daily lives (see also: Mexico, South America, Eastern Europe, Africa, and most of Asia). Our low-ranking public officials and employees are massively overpaid to ensure their integrity and equal application of the law (coming soon: this point invalidated!!).
Public sector employees are massively overpaid? Private contractors make more money than road crews and to complement this road workers have greater job stability. DAs make good money, but not as much as they would on retainer for Sony. Cut their pay and just wait for chumps with diploma mill law degrees to be in charge of prosecuting child pornographers and murderers.

Yeah, I did word that a little strongly. Massively overpaid is an overstatement. CEOs and baseball players would be better exemplified by that choice of words.
I was just saying there's a certain beauty to paying government workers well. When you don't, they'll find other ways to be compensated...
Let's see, what else?
Sure I'm comparing us with the third world, but winning is easiest (and frankly, best) when you pick a weak opponent. USA! USA! USA!
>>12 no filthy begging children/gypsies
I laughed harder than I probably should have at that.
>>11, your covert anti-american agit-prop has been uncovered. Prepare for a lengthy stay at Gitmo, or any of the government sponsored secret resorts spread around the world.
>>6 He no doubt lives in some pathetic loser country.
Lots of different climates. It's pretty easy to find somewhere in America that fits your definition of beautiful weather, no matter what that may be.
Also, we can still mock our politicians, except for Obama, who we couldn't make fun of because he's black and that would be raaaaacist.

-Labor Unions
-Insurance
these two are only good if you play the capitalist game
-Regulations on Corporations (I know they aren't perfect, but things could be SOOOOO much worse, it's not even funny)
>but things could be SOOOOO much worse
the words of a slave
-Right to vote
-Right to own firearms
-Right to protest
-Right to criticize the government/have aberrant opinions
-Right to own land
only good if you believe in rights
-There's plentiful food, water, and luxuries!

( ̄へ ̄) Hello. I am "Mr. Likes To Age Threads". I do believe this is a thread in need of Age, so I would like to age it. That is why my name is "Mr. Likes To Age Threads".
> No violent protests. Say what you will about the lack of people being upset about the many terrible things going on here, but we are a just very polite people when it comes to politics. I haven't seen any angry mobs getting doused with water cannons here in a long time.
this aged poorly
