This song has a very strange feel as an adult. Its melancholic but also not at the same time.
Debbie Harry & the Jazz Passengers - Your Ambivalence
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_ANhut0Jgo
Apparently this is hard bop but I don't know the difference between jazz subgenres. The gRaptureg quote was cute but annoying, other than that I love this song :3
>>355
Really doesn't sound like hard bop to me.
>>356 Could you give a good example of hard bop please? Maybe he was saying the group normally does hard bop rather than this song specifically and I misunderstood. The studio recording I found isn't with Debbie Harry
>>357
A lot if not most of the mid-20th century Blue Note stuff is hard bop. Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers are probably responsible for the most famous hard bop album, Moanin'. Other great albums are Sonny Rollins Saxophone Colossus, Lee Morgan The Sidewinder, and Dexter Gordon One Flight Up. It's generally very hot and danceable with influences from R&B and other black genres of the time. The song you posted has kind of a fusiony post-bop, sorta light free jazz feel to it though I'm not too sure what to classify it as.
>>358 Thanks very much! I just downloaded those albums
