Same thing with southern US dialects. I've grown up my entire life being made fun of for saying "y'all" and now it's trendy on social media. Now when I get made fun for saying it on contrarian anonymous boards, it's not because I have a southern drawl, but because "it's trendy". Had one dude call me a "nigger lover" for saying y'all.
