First, they are simply attractive. People naturally gravitate towards conditions of increased stimulation.

Then, the user begins to disrupt social connections through use. This occurs due to a combination of attraction and dislike for the imperfections and limits of everyday life
Finally, it cements a person into bondage – having alienated them from sources of outside motivation and thereby preventing the resurgence of meaningful activity. Despite the fact that the computer no longer holds appeal

Final stage: The person realizes that the real world is OKAY too and maintains two personnas, an internet and a pretentious one. His/her reAL SELF WAS LONG GONE.

I operate both an interent life and a real life. I have real friends and I sort of date women sometimes. But I NEED to have connections to the internet. I love the never ending flow of emails from internet friends.

But real life sucks, people are plain, boring and don't have hobbies outside getting drunk or partying. They all listen to the same music and do the same things.

On the one hand there is the existent, with its habits and certainties. And of certainty, that social poison, one can die.

On the other hand there is insurrection, the unknown bursting into the life of all. The possible beginning of an exaggerated practice of freedom.

Then all of society is part machine, and free from the fetishes of humanity. And one person will remain, you, and you will weap.

Pretty much my stance. My internet and real lives contain similar personalities, but I'm much less reserved on the internet.

>>5 real life friends aren't that bad ,you've just got to pick the cream of the crop

People suck in general. They don't like what I like, they don't think the way I do and are in general pretty hard to start a relationship based on affinity with.

I can't really relate to this, as I'm actually worse off on the internet than I am in real life. Off line I have a few casual acquaintances from school and can socialize casually. I even have one friend, although they live in a different city so I only see them about every 6 months. Online, however, I haven't made a single friend in more than 10 years. The only social interaction I get is from posting on places like here and 4chan, and often my posts are ignored. I've tried to make online friends, but it's like people's apathy towards me irl is magnified X100 on the internet.

Try playing multiplayer games. They give you a lot of social interaction and if you're lucky, you might make a friend.

For real, >>13 knows what he's talking about. Find a gaming community through something like GMod or Counter Strike, I have made plenty of friends that way.

>feels alienated
>suspects it may be because he farts around on the Internet all the time and never interacts with people IRL
>asks for advice
>"you should try an MMO"

Yes, this will end well.

You kids today and your computers. When I was growing up I didn't NEED a computer to be alienated.

Also, get off my lawn.
