the quantity of data on the internet is inversely proportional to the quality (1)

In the early days of the internet, it was far less convenient to get information online, and most of the content available was written be competent experts on the topics. Today, there is much more content, but that content includes disinformation, spam, and advertisements.
Search engines might make a greater scope of data accessible, but it is much harder to shovel through all the worthless data to get anything meaningful, and experts are drowned out, unless a popular site highlights them. Companies that specialize in commerce will always have their voice heard first, because they can pay to have their sites linked by other sites and thereby show up on Google first.

There is no hope. The internet is becoming a shittier place each day, and there is no filter.
