I'm actually not really interested in who your favorite character is, but rather on the reasons that make you like him/her/it so much. So please don't just leave a name, but list the main reasons that motivate your choice (nice looks, cool powers, interesting personnality, lifestory, etc).
If you are hard pressed to chose an all time favorite, you can also cite some of your favorites.
So, to kick off this thread, here's my favorite character:
Reki, from Haibane Renmei: I like her looks, the multiple layers of her personality, and how these layers show up in details of her everyday behavior, making her more "real" (for instance, the fact that she's a smoking teenager). I also related well to her inner struggles, and enjoyed the way her conflict was brought to a closure.
Yuki Nagato - She's cute, quiet, and the most interesting character in the series. Plus i've always had an interest in robots, and her behavior is very robotic.

The upside of Mikuru is that she is almost certainly ruined for marriage, and thus Kyon can penetrate her.
The downside is that somehow penetrating Yuki would be more exciting.
I like Nagi from Hayate the combat butler.
Because I like her character voice in Japan.
Rie Kugimiya acted Nagi there.
Nagi is one of tsundere type chatracters in Japan.
Tsundere is the abbreviated form of tsun tsun dere dere that means one who cannot show one's love well.
In these days, tsundere type chatracters are popular on manga and anime in Japan.

Lastly.
Clare from Claymore. Vicious, cold, killer. But even proves to be a genuine character. She fights with purpose, self righteous and value.

when SEL televised, 1998 in japan, most otaku couldnt understand what the anime did. Because in these days in japan, internet was not common. Almost otaku couldnt imagine 'wired' and also couldnt understand what is the idea 'omnipresence in wired' meaning.
And there were two parallel contents released.
one was Anime and the another one was game.
To understand Lain, it needed to collect a lot of peaces of information from both contents.
when i was a child, my parents didnt allow me to buy the game because the game version included Lain's masturbation scene.
I really like Tsumugi Kotobuki because she's very cute and silly.
But my favorite character is probably not from K-ON at all, but from Idom@ster. Miki Hoshii~!
Another vote for Lain. She was "multi-faceted" but not in a way that was just a gimmick.
